When I was young Mum taught herself how to cook vegetarian meals. She went to a few classes and that was it - Dad didn't touch meat til the day he died and she's still staunchly vegetarian.
Dad loved these lentil burgers. If he hadn't had them for a few weeks, he'd complain she didn't love him anymore. She'd serve them up with a mushroom creamy sauce made of sourcream, spring onions and mushrooms, and he'd wipe the plate clean.
Of course, she'd adapt them over the years, adding and subtracting things to need and taste. The recipe is quite well thought out and packs a fair hit of protein. I was a little intimidated at first, or I had a bad case of the cant be fuck'ds, but it was Dad's birthday (ghost birthday) and I wanted to remember him. Did they taste as good as I remembered? I mean, these were a weekly staple in my home growing up.

First of all, I did not cook the green lentils and red lentils together. That's some crazy wierd timing shit. I cooked the red lentils separately, and added some cooked green lentils to the mix afterwards.
The mix was fairly wet - @plantstoplanks might recall our discussions on struggling with consistancy and lentil patties sticking together, but these held together pretty well in the pan. I am not sure you'd even need the egg if you were vegan - maybe an egg substitute would work fine.

I doubled the recipe and we had them for lunch the next day too. I added far more curry powder than the recipe asked, and without fresh garlic, I used powdered garlic, but found them fairly tasty. They did, after alll, taste exactly as I recalled.

We served ours with salad, and the next day I microwaved them and smeared them with seedy mustard and added cheese and popped them under the grill.

Yep I'd make them again - I think they are a good hit of protein.
Here's my Dad in the 1970's. He would have been 79 last Thursday. This is 1971, at my christening. The one next to it is worth showing as that 'stache just got bigger. He shaved off in the late '90's sometime.

Wish he was around for me to cook him lentil rissoles.
With Love,
