Una solución rápida, fácil y "low cost" | A quick, easy, and low-cost solution ✂️📐

Hello, Hive community—how's it going? It’s been a while since I’ve stopped by the community, and even though I’ve been doing lots of little things around the house, I’ve forgotten to document them because I’m constantly jumping from one thing to the next. But today I want to share with you a super simple project I did at home that made a big difference in my bedroom—it’s a cover for the edges of my bed frame, or rather, my bed frames (and my husband’s).

I think I’ve mentioned before that we have a king-size bed, and instead of a single box spring, we have two twin box springs, and our mattress fits perfectly, but since it sits flush with the floor and doesn’t have a ruffle (a bedskirt), the fabric covering it has been getting wrinkled, and honestly, I didn’t like the way it looked at all because the sheets don’t cover it completely, so I decided to fix that problem.

The solution was pretty simple: not only did I not have to sew a single stitch, but I also only used three things—a black curtain I wasn't using, a pair of scissors, and a silicone gun—and that was it. With just a few materials and in a very simple way, I solved a problem that was creating a lot of visual clutter. Keep reading to find out how I did it.

Since the bottom of the box rests against the floor and the top is covered by the mattress, I honestly didn’t worry too much about neatness in either of those two areas—that’s why I decided to use the silicone gun; plus, it would be much faster.

The first thing I did was measure (by eye) the width of the box, leaving about 5 cm extra on each side, and then I cut it with scissors—not very neatly, as you can see 🤣

Once I had cut out all the pieces of fabric, the next step was to start gluing them in place using the hot glue gun and with the help of my daughter Miranda, who held the fabric and kept it taut so I could glue it to the box until all the sides of both boxes were finished.

What I did was apply small lines of hot silicone, then position the fabric and press down with my fingers to make sure it adhered well, and in this way, I covered one of the edges.

Next, I repeated the same process with the other end of the fabric, and that’s how I finished covering the first box spring. Then we moved on to the second one. Honestly, it was a super quick and easy project, but it completely transformed the look of my bed and the room as a whole.

As you know, most of our furniture has black accents, so the bed frames match perfectly. In fact, the nightstands have black drawers, so they’re a perfect match.

As you can see in the pictures, the finish at the top and bottom didn't turn out perfectly straight or super neat, but as I mentioned at the beginning, both of those parts will be hidden and only the sides will be visible, so we need to be especially careful when gluing the fabric—we have to stretch it out really well so there aren't any wrinkles or creases, since those are the sections that will be visible, and it turned out really nice.

To be honest, I don't think I've ever done a project that was so simple and quick to complete—and one that made me so happy—because, without a doubt, walking into my room and not seeing the exposed boxes is pure joy. So now you know that if you have this same problem, you can solve it very easily. In my case, I didn’t even have to buy fabric, since I used some curtains I had stashed away and hadn’t used in ages, so as you can see, all it takes is a little creativity to solve small problems around the house!
