Today’s walk takes me to Arismendi Avenue, which borders Guaiqueri Park. It’s named in honor of the national hero Juan Bautista Arismendi; a municipality in Sucre also bears the same name. I’ve passed through here several times, and I liked it because this area looks very different now—the green spaces and street lighting have been restored.
One initiative worth highlighting is the creation of a fence made from recycled materials, such as plastic bottles, painted in different colors to make it more eye-catching. Here you’ll find the Autonomous Institute of Culture of Sucre State, the José Antonio Ramos Sucre School, the Antonio José de Sucre Barracks, and, of course, the main entrance to Guaiqueri Park.
You can also find several major businesses here, such as supermarkets and hardware stores, since this avenue connects the city center with the elevated highway area, spanning several blocks—including the area known as “Las 4 Esquinas,” where the bus stop for San Juan is located.
Returning to the artwork, you’ll notice that rocks and roof tiles have been painted to decorate the space; it’s certainly impossible to walk by here without glancing at it—or even stopping for a moment to admire this artistic display. Of course, the main features are the flowering plants and shrubs, which blend seamlessly with the area’s aesthetic.
Several decades ago, this same avenue was constantly congested because it served as a stop for public transportation to the Universidad de Oriente. Starting early in the morning, you could see a stream of young people walking from Tamarindo to the corner of the Legislative Assembly—or even as far as the barracks—to catch the bus; otherwise, it was very difficult to wait in downtown to get there. At that time, there were far more students than there was transportation—the disparity was enormous.

El recorrido de hoy me sitúa en la Avenida Arismendi, misma que colinda con el parque Guaiquerí. También se pueden localizar varios negocios importantes como supermercados y ferreterías ya que esta avenida comunica al centro de la ciudad con la zona del elevado abarcando varias cuadras entre ellas la conocida como "Las 4 esquinas" donde está ubicada la parada para ir a San Juan.
Regresando a la creación artística, se advierte que han dibujado rocas y tejas para decorar el espacio, sin duda, es imposible pasar por acá sin volter la mirada, incluso detenerse un momento para ver esta propuesta pictórica. Por supuesto, que las protagonistas son algunas plantas florales y arbustos que van en sintonía con la estética del lugar.
Hace varias décadas atrás, en esta misma avenida se presentaba una permanente congestión porque era parada para tomar el transporte para ir a la Universidad de Oriente, desde temprano se podía observar un río de jóvenes caminando desde el Tamarindo hasta la esquina de la Asamblea Legislativa, o inclusive hasta el cuartel para poder subirse al autobús, de otra forma era muy complicado esperar en el centro para irse. Para entonces había más estudiantes que transporte de una manera muy desproporcionada.
