ENGLISH VERSION

Sometimes we experience personal losses, and sometimes we face collective losses—losses that, while not affecting everyone equally, are undoubtedly intertwined with some form of loss. For those of us outside Venezuela, witnessing the devastation of the two earthquakes broke our hearts and filled us with generosity. Many forgot that their neighbor was a government supporter and offered assistance, as is natural for human beings. But then they realized that everyone had suffered great and painful losses.
I didn't directly affect anyone I knew in La Guaira, but everyone became part of my personal grief. Later, we learned that some Hive participants had lost their homes but were safe, and the thought arose: we have to help them; every little bit counts. But, as with everything in life, aid runs out and reaches its limits. The damage and losses seem to be forgotten; new disasters arise, new news emerges, and what's truly important is forgotten.
People are what matters, their needs, and if the state wasn't meeting them before, it's even less so now that it's in dire straits. The lies crumble, and though everyone knew them, they're exposed, but the loss outweighs the trust in others. Another blow no longer matters; after this one, there's not much left to rummage through. The will to live fades for some, while others find an invisible strength to carry on, a reason whose source they can't fathom.
The path to the cemetery is lined with tall, swaying pines, a reminder that beyond lies only solitude.
