12 New Chess.com-Style Board Themes
The HiveSuite Chess experience has been enhanced with a complete board-theme customization system.
Added 12 Chess.com-style board themes, giving players more freedom to personalize their matches:
- Green
- Wood
- Ocean
- Glass
- Dark Wood
- Icy Sea
- Charcoal
- Bubblegum
- 8-Bit
- Sand
- Gothic
- Hive Crimson
These themes provide different visual styles ranging from traditional wooden boards to modern, colorful, dark, and Hive-inspired designs.
Theme Selection During Game Setup
A dedicated theme selection option has been added to the Chess game setup screen.
Players can now preview the available themes through mini board previews before starting a match. This makes it easier to choose a preferred visual style without having to start the game first.
The selection experience is designed to remain simple and quick while giving players more control over their Chess environment.
Instant Theme Switching During Matches
Theme customization is not limited to the setup screen.
An in-game Theme button has been added, allowing players to switch board themes instantly while a match is already in progress.
This makes the experience more flexible and lets players experiment with different visual styles without restarting their current game.
Persistent Theme Selection
The selected Chess theme is stored using localStorage.
This means the player's preferred board theme can persist between sessions, providing a more consistent experience when returning to HiveSuite Chess.
Match Recap Theme Integration
The selected theme has also been integrated into match recap images.
Gameplay recap cards now use the same board styling selected by the player, creating a more consistent visual identity between the actual Chess match and the content shared afterward.
This is especially useful for Hive users who share their gameplay results with the community.

HiveSuite App — Gameplay Share Image Upload
More Reliable Gameplay Image Uploads
Another important improvement has been made to the image upload system used when sharing gameplay content.
Gameplay share images now use an improved fallback order:
ThreeSpeak IPFS → Hive.blog Image Proxy → Ecency
This provides multiple upload paths so that gameplay sharing does not depend entirely on a single image hosting service.
If the primary upload service becomes unavailable or encounters an error, HiveSuite can continue through the configured fallback services.
Permanent IPFS URLs
The upload system has also been updated to use permanent IPFS URLs through ipfs.3speak.tv.
This provides a more stable reference for uploaded gameplay images and improves the reliability of images used in shared Hive content.
The goal is to ensure that gameplay recap images remain accessible after they are published and shared with the Hive community.
Unified Image Upload Handling
The gameplay sharing flow has been consolidated around the unified:
uploadImageWithFallback
implementation.
The following components were updated to use the unified upload process:
GameSharePostModalhiveShareuseGameShare
This reduces duplicated upload logic and provides a consistent fallback strategy across the different gameplay-sharing flows.
Game-Specific Integration
The updated upload handling has also been applied to the game-specific hiveSnap.ts files across the different game modules.
This ensures that gameplay sharing follows the same upload strategy regardless of which HiveSuite game generates the content.
Reliable Fallback Handling
The main objective of this change is reliability.
If the primary image upload service fails, HiveSuite can automatically attempt the next available service instead of immediately failing the gameplay sharing process.
This creates a smoother experience for players who want to share their achievements, match results, and gameplay moments with the Hive community.
