The boondocks is goated, when it comes to animations or cartoons, so ahead of anything that was created at the time and till date its just a top top animation. Huey and Riley these two boys could not be more different in the animation the boondocks and they are the main characters in the show with their Granddad.
Huey is basically a revolutionary who looks at the world like he has already figured out that everybody is lying. Riley, on the other hand, is completely obsessed with gangster culture and wants to be the toughest kid in the neighbourhood. Then you have Granddad, who is just trying to enjoy his life while constantly being dragged into the madness created by his grandchildren. The funniest part is that Huey can sometimes sound like the only adult in the room, while Granddad is behaving like another child.
How could I also forget Uncle Ruckus, Good gracious!!! 😂 Ruckus is just brilliantly written , I don’t even think Boondocks can be created in todays world, everybody is just so woke now, its crazy! People take offence to everything. A character like Uncle Ruckus could never be written now. Some things he says makes me some times just stare at the screen in disbelief, or ask yourself how somebody even came up with this character. Aaron kruger, the creator is a genius, amazing show. For me, even with all the jokes, there is usually an actual argument being made about real worlds issues, if you look past the racism and jokes in the show. You might start an episode laughing, only to realise halfway through that the writers are actually talking about something serious. Race relations, consumerism, celebrity culture, politics and the contradictions within Black American culture are constantly being turned into comedy.
One thing about the boondocks again is that, it makes jokes on everybody and every uncomfortable joke about minorities or culture, so it doesn’t feel like theyre making jokes on just one group of people, it’s a case of everyone gets their own share of roasts. It wasn't trying to make everybody comfortable. It wanted to provoke you, make you laugh, annoy you, and occasionally make you sit there thinking.
The Boondocks is one of those animated series that deserves to be remembered and I believe will forever be remembered, the re-watch value of the boondocks is forever, it never gets old, ive rewatched it more times than I can count. Its just four season but I wish it could have gone on for at least 10 seasons, but I guess what makes it special is they didn’t push it past what it is meant to be and end up spoiling the show and again John Witherspoon the voice actor for Granddad has died, and I don’t think there is anyone that can play Granddad like him.
The boondocks is without a doubt one of the best animations that ive ever watched, its like a cultural statement out there, but then again it should be stated that the boondocks is an adult cartoon, it is not for kids!!!! Keep it away from kids, it’s a real mature cartoon. It comes highly recommend if you watch animations and haven’t watched the boondocks, put it in your list
