For the very first time they are miles away....

Growing up together, Raksha Bandhan was always a pleasant celebration at home, but this year its different. For the very first time, the boy has moved away from home to start his own journey, leaving behind a quieter house and a sister who misses his loud laugh more than she cares to admit. However, Raksha Bandhan is never truly been about being in the same house. It is a celebration of an unspoken vow - the reassurance that no matter how far they drift to chase their dreams, they remain anchored to the same roots, to the same family, to the same parents.

So this year, we had to pick the Rakshi before a week, so that we could send it to him over courier.

She took hours to choose the best threads so that when he ties them to his wrist, he feels that it carries the warmth of home, the teasing fights they haven't had in months, and a pride that stretches across every single mile between them.

Neither my wife nor I grew up with the opportunity to celebrate this sacred day. We never knew the unique joy of the sibling bond—the playful bickering, the unspoken look of understanding, or the beautiful, lifelong vow wrapped in a simple piece of thread. So we vow to nurture a bond between our son and daughter so strong that they always realize that having a sibling is one of life’s greatest blessings.

As we packed these threads along with some other items, my wife and I realized something profound - the bond we never got to experience is now fully alive, breathing, and resilient. It is strong enough to stretch across cities, untethered by distance.

Sending this piece of home was a journey in itself. It turns out that delivering a package to a boy's hostel is no easy task. When our regular DTDC courier refused to ship it, I refused to give up. I spent hours tracking down a BlueDart warehouse. There, I watched them carefully open, inspect, and repackage the items — a strict protocol I had never encountered before. In the end, the shipping price was far more than the cost of the Rakhi and items inside. But as I handed over the amount, I smiled. The price on the receipt didn't matter. The value that this sacred bond carries is simply priceless.

By God’s grace, the package made it just in time. The absolute highlight of our day was receiving a photo from our son, wearing his sister's Rakhi with pure pride. Seeing this picture across the miles is everything to us. It is a beautiful visual testament to the love, resilience, and commitment that anchors this sibling relationship, no matter how far apart they are.
