La manualidad que les quiero compartir hoy es muy especial para mí porque la hice para mí sobrino nuevo, en realidad es mi sobrino segundo ya que es el hijo de mi sobrina, pero no le diré así porque me da flojera 🤭 ahora bien, creo que está introducción será un poco larga porque antes de comenzar a explicar el paso a paso quiero contarles la historia completa de este cartel de nacimiento.
The craft I want to share with you today is very special to me because I made it for my new nephew—actually, he’s my second nephew since he’s my niece’s son, but I won’t call him that because it’s too much of a hassle 🤭. Anyway, I think this introduction will be a little long because, before I start explaining the step-by-step process, I want to tell you the whole story behind this birth announcement sign.
Este cartel fue todo un desafío para mí, ustedes saben que estoy dando mis primeros pasos en las manualidades y prácticamente todo lo que hago es por primera vez y básicamente para aprender y pues este cartel no fue la excepción, pero además de no saber bien cómo hacerlo tuve inconvenientes para decidir que temática y colores elegir, primero quería hacer un cartel de color turquesa porque a pesar de que mi sobrino es varón no quería hacer el típico cartel azul (al final fue lo que hice 🤭) pero quería que llevará un león bebé de foami.
This sign was quite a challenge for me. As you know, I’m just getting started with crafts, and practically everything I do is a first-time experience—mainly so I can learn—and this sign was no exception. But besides not really knowing how to make it, I also had trouble deciding on a theme and colors. At first, I wanted to make a turquoise sign because, even though my nephew is a boy, I didn’t want to make the typical blue sign (which is what I ended up doing 🤭), but I wanted it to feature a baby lion made of foam.
Pues cuando había picado el nombre del bebé en color turquesa me di cuenta de que los colores del León y el color turquesa y los demás apliques no combinaban para nada con el color turquesa así que comencé de nuevo a pensar que diseño hacer, entonces comencé a buscar referencias en Pinterest y me gustó mucho un diseño de selva con las letras del nombre del bebé en dorado, el león y decoración de hojas verdes, si mal no recuerdo el fondo del cartel era blanco.
Well, after I’d embroidered the baby’s name in turquoise, I realized that the lion’s colors, the turquoise, and the other embellishments didn’t go with the turquoise at all, so I started over, thinking about what design to make. so I started looking for inspiration on Pinterest and really liked a jungle-themed design with the letters of the baby’s name in gold, a lion, and green leaf decorations; if I remember correctly, the background of the sign was white.
Pues cuando ya tenía casi todo picado el nombre del bebé y la decoración de hojas en foami verde escarchado y estaba a punto de comenzar a picar las piezas para armar el león de foami, no me tuve confianza, sentí que por la premura, pues el bebé justo nacia ese día, el león no me iba a salir bien, sobre todo porque jamás he practicado hacer caras con pintura acrílica, así que sentí que me iba a salir mal.
Well, when I had almost everything cut out—the baby’s name and the leaf decorations made of frosted green foam—and was about to start cutting out the pieces to assemble the foam lion, I lost confidence. I felt that because of the rush—since the baby was due to be born that very day—the lion wasn’t going to turn out right, especially since I’d never practiced painting faces with acrylic paint, so I felt like it was going to turn out badly.
Entonces comencé de nuevo a pensar en un nuevo diseño que no implicará hacer figuras de animales, ya que sentí que no me iban a salir bien y yo quería que quedara muy lindo, así que ví en Pinterest un diseño de nubes y luna con fondo azul y me pareció muy lindo, así que terminé haciendo el típico diseño azul que no quería, pero lo amé. 🥰
So I started thinking again about a new design that wouldn't involve drawing animal figures, since I felt like they wouldn't turn out well and I wanted it to look really cute. Then I saw a design on Pinterest with clouds and a moon against a blue background, and I thought it was really cute, so I ended up doing the typical blue design I didn't want to do—but I loved it. 🥰
La verdad fue todo un desafío, desde elegir la temática, el diseño, los colores y el armado, fue un trabajo bastante laborioso, pero me ayudó mucho a aprender, obviamente cuando lo hice fui dándome cuenta de los errores o cosas que debo evitar la próxima vez que haga algo así, pero la verdad fue una experiencia muy linda, y sí quieres saber más sobre mi experiencia en este manualidad te invito a que sigas leyendo y te enteres de los materiales que use y el paso a paso. 🥰
It was actually quite a challenge—from choosing the theme, the design, the colors, and the assembly—it was quite a labor-intensive project, but it helped me learn a lot. Obviously, as I worked on it, I started to realize the mistakes I made and the things I should avoid the next time I do something like this, but honestly, it was a really lovely experience. ✨Paso a paso|Step-by-step✨
Lo primero que hice fue sacar el nombre, como pueden ver mi sobrino tiene tres nombres, "Enzo Matteo Hamzeh," nunca he entendido porque algunas madres deciden ponerle 3 nombres a sus hijos, siento que dos son suficientes 😆 pero quería respetar la decisión de mi sobrina y pues me pareció lindo que el cartel llevará los 3 nombres que ella eligió, de todas formas la finalidad de este regalo es darle una alegría a la mamá del bebé. Para que quedará más lindo decidí usar colores y tipografías diferentes, Enzo Matteo lo escribí en dorado y con letra cursiva, mientras que Hamzeh lo escribí en azul escarchado y letra imprenta o separada. Luego le hice una base en blanco escarchado a cada nombre.
The first thing I did was write down the name. As you can see, my nephew has three names: "Enzo Matteo Hamzeh,". I've never understood why some mothers decide to give their children three names—I feel like two are enough 😆 but I wanted to respect my niece’s decision, and I thought it would be nice for the sign to feature all three names she chose. After all, the purpose of this gift is to bring some joy to the baby’s mom. To make it even prettier, I decided to use different colors and fonts. I wrote “Enzo Matteo” in gold cursive, while I wrote “Hamzeh” in frosted blue and block letters. Then I added a frosted white background to each name.
Me pareció importante también ser un poco más sincera con el paso a paso, ya que hay cosas que pasan en el proceso que muchas veces no cuento y que me parecen importantes, al principio le hice una base en blanco a cada nombre, pero luego me di cuenta de que no quedaba bien al ponerlo en la base circular, así que como el silicón líquido estaba fresco todavía lo despegue y probé a montar los dos primeros nombres ** Enzo Matteo** en la base de foami blanco. Y sentí que quedó mucho mejor, de eso se trata esto, ensayo y error. Este tipo de cosas me pasan muy seguido intento hacer algo y luego veo que no va a quedar bien, entonces lo hago de nuevo de otra forma hasta que quedó conforme con el resultado, solo que muchas veces no comparto esa parte del proceso para no hacer un post muy largo, pero está vez me animé a hacerlo.
I also thought it was important to be a little more honest about the step-by-step process, since there are things that happen along the way that I often don’t mention but that I think are important. At first, I made a white base for each name, but then I realized it didn’t look right when I placed it on the circular base, so since the liquid silicone was still fresh, I peeled it off and tried mounting the first two names ** Enzo Matteo** on the white foam base. And I felt it looked much better—that’s what this is all about: trial and error. This kind of thing happens to me all the time—I try to do something and then see that it’s not going to look right, so I redo it differently until I’m happy with the result. It’s just that I often don’t share that part of the process so as not to make the post too long, but this time I decided to go for it.
Luego saque también la luna en foami dorado y las nubes en foami blanco escarchado, al principio solo saqué esas piezas porque hasta ese momento no tenía claro que otros detalles le pondría al arreglo, primero tenía que ver el espacio que tenía para añadir más detalles.
Then I also cut out the moon from gold foam and the clouds from frosted white foam. At first, I only cut out those pieces because, up to that point, I wasn't sure what other details I would add to the arrangement; I had to see how much space I had to add more details first.
Y entonces comencé a armar la base circular del cartel, me gusta mucho que sea circular, en Pinterest ví también algunos carteles cuadrados, pero me pareció más bonito así. Para esto use cartón reciclado ♻️ y use la medida de una bandeja grande de hacer torta para sacar el tamaño del círculo, no lo medí así que no se el diámetro de la bandeja.
Then I started putting together the circular base of the sign. I really like that it’s circular—I saw some square signs on Pinterest, too, but I thought this looked nicer. For this, I used recycled cardboard ♻️ and used a large cake pan as a template to determine the size of the circle; I didn’t measure it, so I don’t know the diameter of the pan.
Luego forre con foami sencillo azul claro, como pueden ver lo pegue al cartón con suficiente silicón frío, y es aquí donde me di cuenta de mi primer error a corregir, como pueden ver la pieza de foami es solo un poco más grande que la pieza de cartón para la próxima haré la pieza de foami unos cuantos centímetros más grande para poder tapar o forrar todos los laterales del cartón, siento que eso le dará un acabado más limpio al trabajo.
Then I covered it with plain light blue foam; as you can see, I glued it to the cardboard with plenty of cold silicone, and this is where I realized my first mistake that needed correcting. As you can see, the foam piece is only slightly larger than the cardboard piece. Next time, I’ll make the foam piece a few centimeters larger so I can cover all the sides of the cardboard; I think that will give the project a cleaner finish.
Lista la base circular comencé a pegar los primeros elementos, los nombres del bebé, la luna y las nubes 😍 ya desde ahí lo estaba amando.
Once the circular base was ready, I started gluing on the first elements—the baby's name, the moon, and the clouds 😍—and I was already loving it right then and there.
Luego saque las piezas en foami azul escarchado con las palabras "Nací," "Medí," "Pesé." Me felicitó porque he dominado el arte de recortar letras en cursiva con una tijera, 🥰👏🏻 antes este paso lo sufría muchísimo porque las palabras quedaban mal recortadas.
Then I cut out the pieces from frosted blue foam with the words "I was born," "I was measured," "I was weighed." She congratulated me because I've mastered the art of cutting out cursive letters with scissors, 🥰👏🏻 before, I really struggled with this step because the words always came out poorly cut.
Luego saque los pequeños círculos de cartón dónde irían esas palabras, use una tapa de envase de mantequilla para sacar el tamaño ideal de estas piezas, al principio estaba usando el rollo de cinta adhesiva, pero me di cuenta que de era muy pequeño.
Then I cut out the small cardboard circles where those words would go. I used the lid of a butter container to determine the ideal size for these pieces. At first, I was using a roll of adhesive tape, but I realized it was too small.
Listo los 3 círculos los forré con foami sencillo blanco. Al principio quería forrarlos con azul claro, pero luego me di cuenta que el blanco crearía un contraste y armonía ideal para el diseño.
Once the three circles were ready, I covered them with plain white foam. At first, I wanted to cover them with light blue, but then I realized that white would create the perfect contrast and harmony for the design.
Luego procedí a pegar las palabras anteriormente recortadas a cada círculo.
I then proceeded to glue the words I had cut out earlier onto each circle.
Luego me didique a pegar los detalles, recorte estrellas en foami dorado y más nubes, además también recorte esos pequeños trozos de foami escarchado para ponerle al rededor de cada círculo, amo ese efecto como de costumbre al borde.
Then I set about adding the details: I cut out stars from gold foam and more clouds, and I also cut out those little pieces of frosted foam to place around each circle. I love that frosted effect around the edges, as always.
Luego uni los 3 círculos pequeños al círculo grande y para eso, use cinta de razo, gracias a Dios tenía una cinta azúl claro que combinó perfecto. Con silicón caliente pegue las cintas a cada pieza. Pero les confieso que fue todo un desafío pegar cada pieza al círculo grande ya que corría el riesgo de que no quedarán centradas, antes de pegarlas con silicón primero las asegure con alfileres y no fue hasta estar segura de que estaban bien centradas que las pague con silicón. Por último, también con silicón pegue el trozo de cinta que será la parte por donde se podrá gindar el cartel a la pared.
Then I attached the three small circles to the large circle, using satin ribbon—thank goodness I had some light blue ribbon that matched perfectly. I used hot glue to attach the ribbons to each piece. But I have to admit that it was quite a challenge to attach each piece to the large circle, since there was a risk they wouldn’t be centered. Before gluing them with hot glue, I first secured them with pins, and I didn’t glue them down until I was sure they were properly centered. Finally, I also used hot glue to attach the piece of ribbon that will serve as the loop for hanging the sign on the wall.
Y este fue resultado gente bonita, pero bueno cuando ya el cartel estaba listo se me ocurrió hacerle un borde con pintura al frío a la luna las nubes y las estrellas, pero casi mancho todo el cartel, tuve que hacerlo con mucho cuidado, así que otra cosa que haría si vuelvo a hacer un cartel como este es preparar bien las piezas antes de montarlas. 🥰
And this was the result, everyone! But anyway, once the poster was finished, I decided to add a border using cold paint to depict the moon, clouds, and stars—but I almost ruined the whole poster. I had to be really careful, so another thing I’d do if I ever make a poster like this again is to prepare the pieces well before putting them together. 🥰
