Hello there! **@saydie** here, playing **Splinterlands** everyday!
The number of rulesets in Splinterlands modifiers keeps increasing, and recently, another ruleset has been added to circulation. These rulesets are game modifiers that change the conditions of every battle for better or for worse. Sometimes, it can be your friend, which gives certain abilities to your cards, while at times, it brings annoying debilitations that could cripple your team. Sometimes, it lets you have access to cards that you can't use in normal situations, but at times, it will also restrict which cards you can use, which results in you facing your opponent with a limited set of cards to choose from.
But for this new ruleset that I will talk about, it will increase the stats of select cards, unlike before when the stat boosts were applied to all cards.
Power of Three
With the addition of the new modifier, there are now a total of 84 rulesets in the game, if we also include the modifiers that can only be used on Seasonal events, as well as the rulesets that were sunset due to a variety of reasons. During a match, there could be up to three rulesets that players can encounter, where they usually need to adjust their lineup to these rulesets to increase the chance that they will win the match. But since the Power of Three is a ruleset that increases the stats of cards with a certain mana cost, players might have to change their initial team compositions just to bring their 3-mana cards.
The Power of Three is a ruleset where any unit with a mana cost of 3 receives +1 to its attack power at the start of the battle.
Instead of giving a stat boost to all units, The Power of Three only increases the damage of units with a 3 mana cost. Not 2, not 1. Just 3, regardless of their element, rarity, attack type, or bloodline, so long as they already have an attack. This means that a no-attack unit will not gain a melee, range, or magic attack even if its mana cost is 3. Here are some examples of cards with a 3 mana cost.
But since most of the 3-mana cards typically have much lower stats, particularly with their health, the additional damage does not really entice many players to use them in high-mana battles, unless they find the card fits the lineup in their mind. So oftentimes, low-mid mana battles are where they usually shine.
However, there are some rulesets that are not really compatible with the Power of Three, such as Even Stevens, simply because 3 is an odd number, and Beefcakes would make many of the 3-mana cards inaccessible since they often have much lower health than other cards.
On the other hand, it could be a great match for some rulesets that already restrict some cards, like Even Stevens, since it only allows the use of units with Odd mana cost, and 3 is an Odd number. It could also fit well with Little League, which allows only archons and units with 4 mana cost or lower in battle, as well as Junior Varsity, which allows only archons and units with 6 or less mana.
Closing
It was interesting that we now have modifiers that only boost the stats of selective cards, which can make us think twice about which cards we will place in our team. But at the same time, it kind of feels like this type of ruleset should have been in the game a long time ago, or that, I feel, it was too simple compared to some of the previously released rulesets.
Thank you, and see you on the next post!
