Hail to the Hive!
I’ve never been one to follow fashion, take the expected route in life and have always somehow gone my own way and found myself in what I think is a perfectly natural situation but to others seems ‘out there’ or “alternative’ or whatever. I’m also lucky enough to be married to someone who giveth a shiteth not to what anyone may think of what we are doing or how we choose to leve and for that matter how we earn our living.
So ending up living on ,what is now, two narrowboats with one of us working for a global Scuba Diving Agency and the other starting her own business teaching Qi Gong classes, to us seems perfectly normal. And so it should.
But when I find myself in casual conversation with people in the pub or wherever, they look surprised and seem baffled or sometimes unbelieving that we are actually living this way.
Looking at some of these photos from a recent trip into Birmingham City Centre on the Canal it kinda made me feel like we are on a different path as this particular route definitely seems to illustrate. But it is ‘our path’.
I love how Ozzy is emblazoned on the side of this Birmingham Canal side building. He absolutely walked his own path!
When we returned to the UK after almost 8 years overseas and moved onto our first boat I don’t think we were thinking to far ahead but embraced the adventure of doing something we had always wanted to do and it has led us to where we are now 5 years later.
There’s so much to do on the boats and I no longer feel that pressure as i know that shit will be endless and you have to accept it. We are both extremely busy with our work and yet we still have that independent fire in us. Still loving boat life. Still loving flipping the bird to the mainstream. Still making it work.
I’m glad this journey a few weeks ago also inspired me to get back to the Hive as this platform kinda embodies alot of that vibe also.
I also missed the B&W photoshoots cos I do…
