Delegated Proof of Stake and Proof of Brain: How Hive Works

How Hive Works

Bitcoin uses heavy electricity and powerful computers to run its network. Hive is different. It is built for fast speed, social media, and true content ownership without wasting energy. Hive replaces computer mining with two smart systems: Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS) and Proof of Brain.

. Delegated Proof of Stake (DPoS): Fast Speed and Community Voting

DPoS is the engine that keeps Hive running smoothly. It makes actions take only three seconds and cost zero extra fees.

  • Electing Witnesses: Instead of everyone using huge computers to mine blocks, the community votes for 20 main helpers called Witnesses (plus extra backup witnesses) to run the network.
  • Voting Power: You lock up your HIVE tokens as Hive Power (HP) to get voting power. The more HP you hold, the stronger your vote is.
  • Keeping Helpers Honest: If a Witness misses blocks or tries to break the rules, voters can remove their support and replace them immediately.

Proof of Brain: Earning Rewards for Good Content

While DPoS keeps the technical network safe, Proof of Brain shares daily digital rewards with real people.

                   ▼ ▼

good articles/videos and upvoting good posts
  • People Decide Value: Instead of secret computer formulas picking ads, real community upvotes decide which posts earn rewards.
  • Finding Good Posts: When you upvote a post using your Hive Power, you get a share of the reward payout too. This encourages people to find and share great content.
  • 7-Day Reward Cycle: Posts collect upvotes for seven days. After one week, the digital rewards are split between the creator and the upvoters.

Owning Your Content and Account

Hive gives you total control over your digital life without corporate interference.

  • Digital Keys: You use secret passwords called Keys (Posting, Active, and Owner keys) to log in. No big tech company stores or controls your password.
  • Permanent Posts: Everything you post or comment is written permanently onto the blockchain. No single person can delete your history.
  • Open Apps: Different websites (like PeakD or Ecency) read from the same Hive network. If one website blocks a post, your profile and content still exist on all the other Hive apps.

Whenever something new and different happens, we will see a lot more different and good things in the market. This is a platform, it has a lot of different meanings, all of which need to be understood

Everything is going well for Hive. The only thing it is lacking is a consistent burning mechanism. Continuous coin printing reduces its value every day, and in the future, demand may also decrease. That’s why having a good burning mechanism could provide strong support for Hive and make the ecosystem more sustainable.

Thank you for explaining everything so well. This is truly an informative post. Thanks for sharing...

  • Thanks for sharing this information, it is like telling us that the platform we are using is worth investing in and also to make ourselves available by contributing our own quota whether through POB or POS.

I also used to use this tag in my posts but I didn't know much about its meaning, but after reading your post today, a lot of things have become clear and I will definitely share it with friends who use this platform.

That’s an easy-to-understand explanation, friend. I finally grasp the meaning of "proof of brain." I’ve often seen that hashtag but didn't know what it meant.
