Whispers of a Punished Tribe.

I took a detour from the main path to explore a nearby tomb. After navigating flooded passages filled with skulls and avoiding an electric eel, I was swept down a waterfall into a dark cavern. Climbing past hanging corpses, I navigated a dangerous jump sequence to discover a base camp.

Spotting a hidden tomb nearby, I decided to put the main objective on hold and head into the cavern depths. The entry route required diving into a subterranean water passage, swimming past scattered skeletons, animal skulls, and the submerged wrecks of ancient boats.

Surface air pockets kept me alive along the way, though I had to carefully steer around a glowing electric eel patrolling the narrow tunnels.

Moving further into the current, the water suddenly surged, swept me off a ledge and plunging me down a massive underground waterfall.

Looking back up at the rushing water, it was clear there was no way to climb back up the way I came.

Searching for an alternate exit, I drove my climbing axes into a sheer rock wall and hauled myself up onto a ledge. The cavern ceiling was lined with upside-down corpses hanging from ropes, suggesting a tribe had executed intruders here long ago.

I carefully timed a series of risky jumps across crumbling ledges, constantly watching for hidden pressure plates or swinging traps that might leave me hanging beside them.

After squeezing through a tight stone squeeze-through, I emerged into a massive, echoing chamber with a deep pit resting at the bottom. Without hesitating, I leaped down to the lower level to explore the floor.

Tucked away against the far stone wall, I discovered an abandoned base camp. Stepping up to the crackling campfire, I sat down to manage my gear and save my progress before heading deeper into the tomb's inner sanctum.

Finding a base camp down there was probably a huge relief. After swimming through dangerous tunnels, surviving the waterfall and climbing around those traps, having a warm campfire waiting looked almost luxurious.

Looking back up at the waterfall and realizing there was absolutely no way back must have been a little unsettling, but at least the tomb clearly should have another path waiting somewhere below.

The electric eel was probably the last thing you wanted to meet while swimming through a narrow passage. Running out of air was already a concern without adding an angry glowing creature to the route.
