4 great sports champions of the past in my city (Pistoia)

Hello hivers, an happy Tuesday to you all! I hope you spent a nice weekend and a good start of a new working week. ❤️

Yesterday I had a busy day doing this and that, included to teach art to the kids in my lab room (one of my favorite activity! ❤️). Today I decided to share with you an exciting thing happened on Friday in my city! At first you have to know I'm not a very sports fan, but there are some famous sports champions that everyone know.

On Friday there was an event call "Un campione per amico" (it means "A champion as a friend") in the main square for an entire day for children dedicated to the sports as an educational activity and a driving force for positive values.

The main characters of the event were 4 italian sports champions of the past: Adriano Panatta, Andrea Lucchetta, Ciccio Graziani and Martin Castrogiovanni. The 4 champions guided the children through four disciplines (tennis, volleyball, soccer and rugby) focusing not only on the game itself, but also on the respect for the rules, healthy competition, and team spirit. Everything inside the large square where a sort of small sport village was placed.

There were a lot of people all around, but while I'm walking along a alley close to the main square (I went to the postal office) an excited scene was in front of me: the 4 champions were in a corner to wait the car to go to lunch and so I took some pics to share with you!

Just to know why they are great champions, here some short things about each of them:

Adriano Panatta (born in the 1950) is an Italian tennis player who won the 1976 French Open, becoming the first Italian man to win a major singles title. (you can read more about him here)

Andrea Lucchetta (born in the 1962) is an Italian volleyball player who is a three-time Olympian! He won a World Championship with the Italian national volleyball team in 1990. A curiosity: he is nicknamed "Crazy Lucky" for his bizarre hair style (as you can see in the following pic).

Francesco "Ciccio" Graziani (born in the 1952) is an Italian football manager and football player who played as a forward. Playing with the Italy national team, they won the 1982 FIFA World Cup and he's the ninth-highest all-time scorer for the Italy national team with 23 official goals.

Martín Leandro Castrogiovanni ( born in the 1981) is an Italian-Argentine rugby player. He represented the Italian national team 119 times over 14 years. Here he played for Calvisano team for 5 years and after he played for Leicester Tigers (England) for seven seasons, winning 4 Premiership Rugby titles.

The pics I took are not so beatiful, but I took them while I was still surprising to watch them in front of me. 😁

See ya soon and stay safe, Silvia

  • Ma questa iniziativa è stata fantastica! Ottima idea che replicherei in tante altre città d’Italia. Ho trovato interessante anche il fatto che i quattro campioni derivassero proprio da quattro discipline diverse.
