Hello hivers, an happy Wednesday to you all! Today I'm here for my first review about a book and I decided to start with one of my favorite writers: Agatha Christie!
At first, even if I think everyone here know who was Agatha Christie, a short bio: Dame Agatha Mary Clarissa Mallowan (1890 – 1976), known by her first married name Agatha Christie, was an English writer best known for her many detective novels and short-stories. Hercule Poirot, Tommy and Tuppence and Miss Marple are the main characters of those novels and stories and Christie is one of the greatest writers in the mistery stories of all time! I love her books since I was a young girl and along the time I collected (and read, sure!) her novel in different editions and different languages. For my first review I decided to talk to you about a short novel titled "The Witness for the Prosecution".
"The Witness for the Prosecution" short story was published for the first time in the 1925 with the title "Traitor's Hands" in a magazine. In the 1933 it was published for the first time in a collection of short stories titled "The Hound of Death" and after was published under the same title in collection like the one you see in the previous pic (that's the one in my own collection of her books). Along the time the story has been adapted for stages and movies.
In the following pic, close to the English edition, you can see the italian edition where there is this short story. Just to know, the italia title "Il segugio della morte" is for "The Hound of Death".
In this story a man called Leonard Vole is arrested for the murder of the old woman Emily French. Even if Leonard was married with a woman called Romaine, Miss French had named him heir. When Romaine agrees to testify, she does it not not in his defence but for the prosecution. This can seems to be an honest decision about a woman who think her hubby is guilty, but this is not the case!
I can't tell you more about the plot because it could be an alert spoiler, but I can say even if this is a short story (between the other short stories in this collection) is one of the best stories I have ever read. It's not just about a murder, but also about a relationship, about strategy, about deals, about feelings.
See ya soon and stay safe, Silvia
