Mushroom Monday - Loads of Finds

I went mushroom hunting with some friends for this #musrhoommonday 1000006479.jpg Found some crown tipped coral right off the bat. This is a good sign the mushroom hunt will be a success because often you walk into the forest and find nothing for a long time and end up seeing just one or two boring mushrooms.

1000006476.jpg Plenty of peppery Lactifluus piperatus were out. These are edible but super hot and spicy.

1000006477.jpg The best you can do with these is to powder them and used them as spice in soups.

1000006474.jpg Just an old dryad's saddle starting to die.

1000006475.jpg Maybe a week earlier and it would have been harvestable.

1000006470.jpg There is another baby one starting though. They look quite strange at this age but within a couple days or so a nice tender harvestable shelf will be growing here.

1000006482.jpg A random tiny red bolete. These guys are too small and tough to really harvest for eating. Plus many boletes around here cause stomach upset.

1000006484.jpg I have problems identifying the numerous smaller ones that all look like one another.

1000006487.jpg Yellow pores and a red stem and cap. Which of the 10 varieties could it be?

1000006485.jpg It did stain blue but I didn't get photos of it. The edible one with these characteristics is the bicolor bolete but it tends to be much larger than this.

1000006491.jpg These guys look oddly familiar I just can't quite remember in my dad brain what they are. Their gills were slightly pinkish too.

1000006492.jpg The tops became convex too. Our friends also have a toddler so it was a bit of a distraction hunting mushrooms with two toddlers and keeping them mosquito free. At least I have this photo to try and identify them later. Somehow I suspect they are not edible. Now on to round up the kids.

That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)

  • Nice day in the woods 👍 Aren't they all? two toddlers will definitely distract you from foraging. I think I saw some coral growing near one of my flower beds today. Need to go back and check it out.
