Monica, played by Uche Montana, is the first daughter in a struggling family. From a young age, she carried much responsibility at home. She helped her mother with her business right from the time she was little, and later learned tailoring.
Monica sacrificed her own education, as well as her time and every other thing, just to see that her family came first before anything else. She had two younger siblings. She took care of them right from when they were little. After she finished her secondary school, she was not able to further her education just because she wanted her siblings to continue their schooling because there was a struggle between the father and the mother.
Monica decided to learn tailoring, which helped her get some money. As time went on, Monica eventually fell in love with Pascal, a young man who truly cared for her. He supported her dreams of becoming a tailor and even gave her money to start up a tailoring business and get a sewing machine. But Monica's mother did not trust the guy. She insisted that the money should be used for the family.
Again, Pascal's intentions towards Monica became more serious, and her mother still did not agree with that. In this part, Monica expected her mother to be happy for her and also encourage her. But I think what made Monica also reject Pascal when he wanted to marry her at that time was because her mother wasn't supportive of it. Monica actually loved Pascal, but she was just concerned about her family, thinking that when she left, her family could not do it on their own. But eventually, the family actually turned their backs on her.
When she rejected Pascal, Pascal decided to travel to the United States for some years. When he came back, he saw Chika, Monica's sister, grown up. At that time, Monica wasn't around. So he decided to take Chika out. From there, they fell in love. And Monica's mother agreed to that.
Monica was very hurt at that point. So she decided to leave the house. She went about her life. She focused on her life and built her life to become a better person. Even when she decided to do that, she still thought about the family. And her brother came and asked her for money. She had no choice but to help him with that. Along the line, he still disrespected her, saying that she was greedy.
This was the right decision Monica should have made. Monica had sacrificed her time and her whole life just to help the family, but they ended up betraying her. It is very dangerous to lose yourself while trying to take care of someone, especially when they are not even thankful for that help.
The film was very interesting, and it teaches us about the way of life a little, and how to take responsibility for oneself rather than sacrificing everything for another person. Monica had no choice but to leave the family and build her life. And she did, and opened a big fashion house, employing others. And she became a big person because she focused on her life.
