Peter had been desperately looking for a job for about six months. Until when he met Mr Williams, who help him and offered him are driving job. Peter was desperate to find a job so he could take care of himself. Finding work was very difficult. Sometimes people would tell him to wait or promise to call him back, but no one ever did. One afternoon, after an unsuccessful interview, Peter was walking along, feeling very tired, so he decided to rest for a little while. Then his phone rang. “Is this Peter?” a man's voice asked. “Yes,” Peter replied. “I was given your number by someone who knows you,” the man said. He asked if Peter could drive, and Peter quickly replied, “Yes, sir, I can.” The man introduced himself as Mr Williams. He was a rich businessman who needed a personal driver for his daughter, Maya. Mr Williams warned Peter that the job wouldn't be easy because his daughter was difficult. The next morning, Peter arrived at Mr Williams's house. His daughter came out, looked him up and down, and asked, “Are you the new driver?” “Yes, I am,” he replied. Maya laughed and said, “You don't look like a driver. You look like a farmer.” Peter didn't reply. “Let's see how long you last,” she said. Peter immediately understood what her father had meant when he said she was difficult. Maya was always putting Peter under pressure. She would change their destination without his consent. Sometimes she would make him wait for hours, then tell him that he hadn't been available when she needed him. At one point, Peter became very angry and wanted to quit, but there were no other jobs available, so he decided to endure it. After some time, Peter began to notice things about Maya. He realised that she wasn't simply stubborn; she was angry. Her mother had died when she was young, and her father didn't have time for her. He was always travelling for business. He provided everything for her, but he wasn't there when she needed him most. One rainy evening, Maya asked Peter to drive much faster because she had somewhere to go. But Peter didn't listen to her; he drove slowly. “Why are you slowing down?” Maya asked. “The road is dangerous,” Peter said. She insisted that Peter drive faster, but he refused. Maya was astonished. She told him she could get him fired, but Peter wasn't shocked at all. He remained calm, and she was surprised that he wasn't afraid of her. The next morning, Maya asked Peter why he wasn't afraid of her, as other people were. Peter told her that he knew she wasn't a bad person; she was just angry. He also told her that she could become a better person if she let go of that anger. She was surprised. No one had ever spoken to her so calmly. From then on, Peter set boundaries with her. When she was wrong, he told her. When she treated someone badly, he encouraged her to do better. Months later, Maya's father returned from a long business trip. As he entered the compound, he saw Maya doing some housework and was very surprised. After a while, he noticed changes in her attitude. He was shocked and asked, “What is the mystery behind these changes?” Maya told him that Peter was the person who had encouraged her in different ways. Mr Williams said, “We have hired many drivers, and most of them were not able to stay long, and some of them were very afraid of my daughter. But you, Peter, you've done something that money cannot do.” Mr Williams was very happy and doubled Peter's salary. Pixabay
