So I was doomscrolling one time when I came across a video of six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates teaching a technique for lat pulldowns. He was talking about using a reverse grip, arguing that it allows for a greater range of motion compared to the traditional overhand grip.
With the type of back he built, you can hardly question his experience. So, I decided to give it a try, and I’d say it has made my lat pulldowns a lot more interesting.
What I’ve noticed is that I can actually get a better range of motion with the reverse grip. With the overhand grip, I sometimes feel like my biceps get in the way and limit how far I can comfortably pull. With the reverse grip, as I did in the video, I’m able to pull lower, really squeeze my back at the bottom, and then get a good stretch at the top.
It’s a slight tweak, but it seems to make a noticeable difference in how the movement feels and how well I can connect with my back.
Give it a try and let me know what you think.
Till next time. God bless.
