Hello to everyone in this community and fellow sewing enthusiasts! I think that, like many of you, I have no self-control when it comes to saving sewing tutorials for things that catch my eye, haha. That's why my social media algorithm ends up recommending countless sewing tutorials of all kinds. More recently, I've been seeing projects related to babies. I haven't done much work on baby items before, but since some of my family and friends have recently had babies or are expecting, I thought I'd make a little something they could give as a gift. That's when I decided to make bibs ✨

This isn't the first time I've made bibs. In fact, I made some really cute animal-themed ones that I don't know where they are now (there are several boxes with my things still inside). I couldn't find the patterns either, so I decided to look for one on YouTube. I found a really good tutorial on how to make several types of bibs with a single pattern. I liked it because the process is explained in detail. I ended up making two of the types explained, so I'll show both processes in this post.

🧵🍼 Bib with Bias Binding 🧵🍼

To make this bib, besides the pattern, you will need: the main fabric. In this case, I had a very pretty fabric with baby prints that I thought would be perfect for the project. I also decided to add waterproof fabric to make it leak-proof, although you could also use terry cloth, which in this case would be absorbent. Finally, you will need bias binding, which I cut from the fabric itself, as well as a small piece of Velcro or hook and loop fastener.

Note: Both pieces of fabric are cut flush with the pattern, without adding any seam allowance.

When moving to the sewing machine, both pieces of fabric are joined, with the wrong sides facing each other.

Once this is done, proceed to sew the bias tape all around the edge of the bib.

To close it, I sewed some small pieces of Velcro on both ends.

And so, the bib was ready ✨

Another way to close it, instead of using Velcro, is to use straps. For these, we can sew bias tape strips to the corners of the bib.

The bib can be closed around the baby's neck with a simple bow using the ribbons.

Another way to make a bib with the same pattern, without using bias tape, is by adding a seam allowance all around the edge. In this case, the bib piece is marked on the top fabric, and the neckband is cut out after sewing it.

When joining the two pieces of fabric, place them right sides together and sew, leaving an opening for turning the piece right side out. Then, trim off any excess fabric and make small snips along the curved edges to allow the fabric to stretch when turned right side out.

After turning the piece inside out and ironing it, a seam is made all around the edge of the bib, for greater fixation, as well as to close the opening where the bib was turned inside out.

Finally, the Velcro or hook-and-loop fastener is sewn on. If using strips, these can be sewn on externally or added when joining the fabric pieces.

So, we'll have another type of bib ✨ Personally, I like this one better because it's ideal when you don't have bias tape and the fabric you're working with is just a scrap. What do you think? What's your favorite type of bib? 🍼

¡Hola a todos los integrantes de esta comunidad y amantes de la costura! Considero que, como debe de sucederle a muchos, no tengo autocontrol cuando se trata de guardar tutoriales de costura de cosas que me llaman la atención jaja Es por eso que en mis redes sociales, el algoritmo acaba por recomendarme infinidades de tutoriales de costura de todo tipo. Más recientemente, me han aparecido proyectos sobre bebés. He trabajado muy poco con encargos de piezas para bebés, pero dado que actualmente algunos de mis familiares y amigos, tuvieron hijos hace poco o los mismos, vienen en camino, pensé en elaborar un detalle que pudiera regalar. Fue ahí cuando decidí hacer baberos ✨

No es la primera vez que elaboro baberos. De hecho, hice unos muy lindos inspirados en animales que no sé en dónde están (hay varias cajas con cosas mías aún adentro). Tampoco conseguí los patrones, por lo que decidí buscar uno en Youtube. Conseguí un tutorial muy bueno de cómo elaborar varios tipos de baberos con un sólo patrón. Me gustó porque se explica detalladamente el proceso. Terminé haciendo dos de los tipos explicados, por los que mostraré ambos procesos en esta publicación.

🧵🍼 Babero con bies o sesgo 🧵🍼

Para realizar este babero, aparte del patrón, se necesita: la tela principal, en este caso, yo tenía una tela muy linda con estampados de bebés que pensé, sería perfecta para el proyecto; aparte, pensé en agregarle tela impermeable para que fuese antiderrame, aunque, también se puede usar tela de paño, para que en este caso, sea absorbente y para finalizar, necesitaremos bies, yo lo saqué de la propia tela, así como un trocito de velcro o cierre mágico.

Nota: Ambas piezas de tela se sacan al ras del patrón, sin agregar aumento.

Al pasar a la máquina, se procede a unir ambas piezas de tela, enfrentando las partes reversas entre sí.

Una vez hecho esto, se procede a coser el sesgo por todo el borde del babero.

Para cerrarlo, cosí unos trocitos de velcro en ambos extremos.

De esta forma, el babero estuvo listo ✨

Otra forma de cerrado, en lugar de usar el velcro, es utilizar tirantes. Para ellos, podemos coser unas tiras de sesgo a las puntas del babero.

A través de las cintas, se puede cerrar el babero alrededor del cuello del bebé con un lazo sencillo.

Otra forma de elaborar un babero con el mismo patrón, sin usar bies o sesgo, es agregándole un aumento de costura por todo el borde. En este caso, se marca la pieza del babero en la tela superior y la parte correspondiente al cuello del bebé, se corta luego de coserla.

A la hora de unir ambas piezas de tela, se deben enfrentar los lados derechos de las telas y al coser, se deja una abertura para voltear la pieza. Ahora sí, se proceden a cortar los excedentes y a hacer unos pequeños piquetes en las zonas curvas, para que la tela ceda al voltearse.

Tras voltear la pieza y plancharla, se realiza una costura por todo el borde del babero, para una mayor fijación, así como para cerrar la abertura por donde se hubo volteado el babero.

Finalmente, se cose el velcro o el cierre mágico. En el caso de que se desee hacer con las tiras, se pueden coser externamente o se añaden al momento de unir las piezas de telas.

Así, tendremos otro tipo de babero ✨ En lo personal, me gusta más este, porque es ideal cuando no tienes bies y la tela con la que estás trabajando, es sólo un retazo ¿Qué opinan? ¿Cuál es su tipo de babero favorito? 🍼
