Greetings. Work has been a bit intense these days, just like the heat that’s been enveloping the island since early morning. I’ve been getting home very late, exhausted and with that feeling that my body is crying out for rest. That’s why, on some days, I haven’t been able to show you a little glimpse of the scenery I love to share with you as part of my work routine. Even so, here I am, with the same warmth as always, to tell you how our Wednesday went—a day that started very early, as is our custom. The sun has been relentless—strong, bright, almost defiant—and staying hydrated has become an absolute priority. Before leaving home, we packed our large water containers, because these days the heat is relentless. With everything ready, we took Simplicio Rodríguez Avenue—that road that always gives us a breather between the sea and the mountains. It’s a route that has become an essential part of our routine, because it mentally prepares us to face the work and challenges that each day brings.
Saludos. En estos días el trabajo ha sido un poco intenso, igual que el calor que abraza a la Isla desde temprano. He llegado muy tarde a casa, agotada y con esa sensación de que el cuerpo pide descanso urgente. Por eso, algunos días no he podido mostrarles un pedacito de los paisajes que tanto me gusta compartirles en mi rutina de trabajo. Aun así, aquí estoy, con el mismo cariño de siempre, para contarles cómo transcurrió nuestro miércoles, un día que comenzó bien temprano, como ya es costumbre para nosotros. El sol ha estado implacable, fuerte, brillante, casi desafiante, y mantenerse hidratados se ha convertido en prioridad absoluta. Antes de salir de casa cargamos nuestras envases grandes de agua, porque en estos días el calor no perdona. Con todo listo, tomamos la avenida Simplicio Rodríguez, ese camino que siempre nos regala un respiro entre mar y montañas. Es una ruta que se ha convertido en parte esencial de nuestra rutina, porque nos prepara mentalmente para enfrentar el trabajo y los retos que trae cada jornada.
When we arrived at the hotel, we were welcomed very warmly, as always. They were already waiting for us to carry out our routine chlorination and disinfection of the main pool, a task we perform with great care because we know how important it is for the hotel’s operations and the peace of mind of its guests.
Al llegar al hotel nos recibieron muy bien, como siempre. Ya nos estaban esperando para realizar nuestra rutina de clorado y desinfección del tanque principal, una tarea que hacemos con dedicación porque sabemos lo importante que es para el funcionamiento del hotel y la tranquilidad de sus huéspedes.
After we finished, we did our usual rounds, checking the filters and making sure everything was in order. As I’ve mentioned before, the Ecoland Hotel always has something new to surprise its guests. This week, they set up a small office for Huellitas, an organization dedicated to the care of pets and animals in general. They’ve created a small hotel within the hotel—a special space for guests’ pets that they can’t leave at home. They also care for some pets they’ve rescued from nearby areas and encourage children to develop a love for and sense of responsibility toward animals. For someone like me, who loves nature and every living creature that inhabits it, this initiative strikes me as simply wonderful.
Después de terminar, dimos nuestro recorrido habitual verificando los filtros y asegurándonos de que todo estuviera en orden. Como les he comentado antes, el hotel Ecoland siempre tiene algo nuevo para sorprender a sus visitantes. Esta semana instalaron una pequeña oficina de Huellitas, una asociación dedicada al cuidado de mascotas y animales en general. Han creado un pequeño hotel dentro del hotel, un espacio especial para las mascotas de los huéspedes que no pueden dejarlas en casa. También cuidan algunas mascotas recogidas en las áreas cercanas y fomentan en los niños el amor y la responsabilidad hacia los animales. Para alguien como yo, amante de la naturaleza y de cada ser vivo que la habita, esta iniciativa me parece simplemente maravillosa.
As we left the hotel, we passed by the lagoon, and just then we saw a boat heading out through the canal toward the beach, bound for the sea to begin the day’s work. That simple, everyday scene captures the heart of life on Margarita Island: fishermen who, day after day, rise early to work with the sea as their companion. These are scenes that often go unnoticed, yet they hold immense beauty and a deep connection to the traditions and hard work of our people.
Al salir del hotel pasamos por la laguna, y justo en ese momento pudimos ver cómo un bote salía por el canal hacia la playa, rumbo al mar para comenzar la faena del día. Esa imagen tan sencilla y cotidiana refleja el corazón de la vida margariteña; pescadores que, día tras día, se levantan temprano para trabajar con el mar como compañero. Son escenas que muchas veces pasan desapercibidas, pero que guardan una belleza enorme, una conexión profunda con la tradición y el esfuerzo de nuestra gente.
That’s how our workday went—filled with tasks, beautiful scenery, and moments that help clear the mind. Every trip around Margarita Island reminds us how lucky we are to live surrounded by so much natural beauty, even when the work is hard and we’re feeling tired.
