Dear fellow travelers in this wonderful #worldmappin community, today I want to tell you—with great affection—about a place that, even though it’s located inside a hotel, holds a natural magic that amazes everyone who visits it. I’m referring to the lagoon known as “Laguna de Manglares,” a little hidden gem inside the Sunsol Ecoland hotel, located in the municipality of Gómez, in the state of Nueva Esparta, here on our beloved Margarita Island. For many tourists, it’s one of the hotel’s most relaxing attractions, and for those of us who work near it, it’s a landscape that never ceases to captivate.
This lagoon offers activities that bring you face-to-face with nature. Among them are boating, pedal boating, and kayaking—two experiences that let you explore its calm waters while enjoying the surroundings.
What catches the eye most are the mangroves, which surround the entire lagoon as if they were natural guardians. It’s beautiful to watch them grow, to see how they stretch out in search of a place to take root, and to observe how their roots adapt to both water and land—it’s sublimely beautiful. Nature always finds a way to survive and beautify the landscape, and here it demonstrates this with unique elegance.
Several species of birds live in the lagoon, although today I’ll just show you a white heron that, somewhat warily, decided to pose for my camera. It was a special moment, because these birds are usually shy and cautious, but this one stayed still long enough for me to capture its beauty.
In addition to birds, the lagoon’s waters are home to shad and sea bass of all sizes. During certain periods, such as the one we’re currently experiencing, fishing is permitted due to overpopulation. Even hotel staff can participate, and this fascinates many tourists because they can watch the entire process and then enjoy the freshly prepared fish. It’s an experience that combines tradition, flavor, and nature.
Around the lagoon there are benches where you can sit and breathe in the fresh air, listen to the sound of the water, and watch the wildlife moving silently. Sometimes you see birds; other times, small crabs emerge from their burrows and quickly hide. There are also capybara statues, a reminder of the years when these animals roamed freely around the hotel’s lagoon. Although they are no longer there, their presence lives on in these sculptures that delight visitors.
Near the pool area, a bridge crosses the lagoon, connecting it to other parts of the hotel. Since the resort is quite large, there is an internal shuttle that runs throughout the grounds for guests who want to explore every corner without walking too far. The cabins near the lagoon are called “Cabañas La Laguna,” and they’re very popular with tourists. You can easily spot them by their yellow windows, while the other cabins retain their traditional blue color.
This lagoon is so inviting that no one leaves the hotel without visiting it. One of the restaurants even has a direct view of it, allowing you to enjoy a beautiful natural spectacle while you eat. So, if you ever have the chance to visit the Sunsol Ecoland hotel, I highly recommend that you be sure to stop by this lagoon, surrounded by mangroves and wildlife. It’s a spot you’ll fall in love with.
I hope you enjoyed this little tour. I’ll be back very soon with another post to share something interesting about our beautiful Margarita Island.
See you soon.
Bye.
