Now what?
It seems that the election polling ended up being pretty accurate for once and the US democrats did indeed create a flippening, taking majority and control in both the House and the Senate. In the end, it wasn't really close even and there might be some more flips to happen, but as of now 29 districts moved from Republican to Democrat, and as I can see, not a single one went democrat to republican.
It was the same in the senate, where out of the 33 total seats up for re-election, seven flipped democrat, and none flipped republican. Five states also changed to a democrat governor, and none changed to a republican.
I think this is a pretty clear illustration of how unpopular Trump has become.
It also tells perhaps what makes him unpopular, since I reckon many people are okay with the tariffs (because they don't understand them) that were the news of 2025, and they were okay with going to war with Iran and even courting Russia. Many were okay with the ICE raids on illegal (and legal) immigrants. But when fuel prices increase, that is where the line gets drawn. But as said...
Now what?
The changes take effect in January, but it is going to be interesting to see where it leads and if they are able to make any significant changes to undo some of the damage already done. Of course, they can't do that much other than create barriers to the current administration, but that might not be a bad thing for the rest of the world at least. What I am hoping they will do is force a de-escalation of the Iran war, and push for an end in Ukraine that doesn't mean giving Putin the win. What I hope they don't do, is go after Trump.
Too much drama for too little gain.
Do something that matters, instead.
Wouldn't it be nice if we could soon look back at this last decade and a half and say, I don't know what we were thinking, but glad we wised up. At least from my perspective, this last period has seen humanity go the most backward relative to any other time in history. Yes, there have been technological advancements, but as far as humans have gone, we are getting worse. If there is ever a sign that we are failing, it is the state of politics in what are meant to be the "developed nations" - but they are far more closely resembling the third-world.
It is like when I was young I'd see on the news people protesting and rioting on the streets, throwing Molotov cocktails at police and looting, but it would always be in some far off place that no one gave a crap about. The kind of place where tens of thousands can die, and it barely made the news. Now it is happing in developed nations and in places that would normally be shining examples of society functioning.
But here we are.
What I am hoping is that in Europe, people will start to recognise how ridiculous following the US is and how it leads to not only social disruption, but community dismemberment. The pressure on Europe coming from both the US and Russia is to break the EU apart, but the EU should grow up and take the other path, and start being "EU first" and continuously reducing purchasing from the US. Become an independent bloc for real. But more than this, it should put all efforts into building quality of life in Europe at all levels, and become a true leader in human first policy and business approach.
The US has proven itself an unreliable partner and many will say it is because of Trump, but that is not the case. Trump has just highlighted the fragility of the system and how easy it is to cause major disruptions globally, so as to fill the pockets of a few. Even when Trump is out in two years time, the system in the US is still the same, so it is just a matter of time that the next one comes in and they are likely to be worse since the road is already paved.
The systems need to change.
No protests needed - just a little wisdom.
