Tuesday - Buttonwood Park New Bedford MA

Buttonwood Park New Bedford MA

Yesterday I looked out the window and noticed some fall/Autumn colors on one of the trees, and I thought I needed to get out during the day and look for fall colors and get some photos, but as I write this my wife and I are still battling the virus, and I have another small issue. So I am not really up to getting out for walks, as it wears me out too much, but hopefully in a few days I will be able to.

But thinking about it, the last 3 years, every time the fall colors come out, I seem to have had some health issues and not been able to get out and catch the fall colors, and hoping and praying that's not the case this year.

But thinking of that, I thought one spot I would go to is Buttonwood Park here in New Bedford and called by many the Jewel of the city, it was designed by the same group that designed Central Park in NYC, and is such a beautiful spot.

And all that thinking led me to select these photos to share today from recent and not quite so recent visits to the park.

Starting with this photo of one of the green areas, beside the greenhouse, I often see people in this area during the day sitting and relaxing on the grass.

Now I am not sure why, but when I visit the park, I always get at least one photo of this small Island and the tree on it in the middle of the pond. I just find it charming, I guess

And the warming house on one edge of the pond, apparently back in the day it had a roaring fire going in winter and people would go and skate on the pond, and then go inside to warm up, now it is used by a senior living group.

And to finish off the Barnard Monument

The text on it says

Dedicated as a Tribute to the sturdy whalemen who early won fame for New Bedford and their successors who, inheriting ideals and resourcefulness, gave to the city new prominence by creating a great manufacturing center

And that’s all folks

  • Thank you for sharing these beautiful photographs @tattodjay, they are incredible and highlight why the site holds that distinction of being the Jewel of the City, it is very beautiful. I hope you and your wife have a speedy recovery, and that you also have a blessed day.

Bzzz, hope you and your wife feel better soon — resting instead of pushing through a walk was the right call. 🐝 That little island with the lone tree in the middle of the pond is such a charming recurring shot, no wonder it keeps calling you back. Fingers crossed the fall-colors curse breaks this year and you get out to catch them once you're well again.

Looks like things haven't quite turned too much yet. We just had a day in the 90 degree range yesterday, I think the last throes of Summer are fading.
