[Movie] The Town (2010) Review

The Town (2010) is a crime thriller, the movie also combines interesting action, deep romance, conflict, loyalty and a struggle/ desire to break free from the kind of life you were born into. This movie is directed by Ben Affleck, set in Charlestown, Boston. The storyline is about some skilled robbers, their job develops a loophole when one of the robbers begins to fall in love and have an affair with a lady. This lady is connected to one of their heist and now he has to choose between risking his job as an armed robber and protect his love affair.

Ben Affleck is not just the director of this interesting movie, but also played the main character in this movie, he was known as Doug MacRay, he's the leader of a robbery group alongside Jeremy Renner as Jem. Jem is Doug's best friend, who happens to be unpredictable and has many flaws that affected the robbery group negatively.

Doug fell in love with Claire and felt it was an opportunity for him to start a better life and build a family , this part of the movie gave an emotional dimension, but Claire was never aware of Doug real job. He also hid their affair from his group because he had to protect her. However, trying to escape from his past and start a better life is even more difficult than Doug even expected, and now he has to face the consequences of his choice of life.

The movie also portrays friendship and loyalty, Doug and his best friend, Jem, have a bond they have developed from being friends since childhood and their loyalty to each other is always tested in every situation they find themselves, but Jem has a very reckless attitude, creates unnecessary tension between the group members always, violate rules and usually cause harm even when the group plan not to take a soul and that has always made his team mate realize they can't rob forever.

The action sequence of this movie is one of this movie's greatest strengths. The film shows brilliant and well planned robbery scenes, the chase scenes are perfect, the shootouts are chaotic and intense and this made the movie really interesting to watch. The audience could feel how dangerous these crimes are and the risk associated with crimes.

The performance of every cast in this movie was great and very believable because of Ben Affleck's performance as Doug, Jeremy Renner as Jem. As a viewer, I was furious at how problematic he was to the team, and Rebecca Hall who acted as Claire, gave a very romantic performance and showed the emotional depth of her character. Also, Jon Hamm, the FBI agent, known as Adam Frawley, whose pursuit of these robbers added more tension to this movie. 1001559064.jpg

The Town (2010) isn't just a crime thriller, but also explores choices. Doug was raised around crime, but was able to make a choice to build a life outside crime, regardless of his environment, he always felt that wasn't the life meant for him. He knew he wasn't going to be permanently trapped in a life of crime. His struggle to leave a life he was born into and build a life with Claire is a deeply emotional one.

Ultimately, The Town (2010) is a movie with very realistic action and a strong character development, it's a heist story that explores romance, love, emotions , consequences and friendship. The Town (2010) is the kind of movie that will keep you glued to your screen .

I will be rating the movie The Town (2010) 90/ 100.
