Title like this really gets me excited.. as a lovee of reality tv i an very interested in shows that give of the same vibes, desperate housewives drama series is one i got introduced to when i was only 9 years old, it was one of those daily episodes that my mum kept up at the time in the later 2000’s and i guess my love for drama of this sort was born from then. Now i obsesse over reality tv and the likes because i relish at concept of rawness in relational behaviorism
The storyline
Desperate housewives set in the early 2000’s is a drama series written by Marc cherry that shows the everyday lives of women on wisteria lane, starring ( eva longoria), who plays gabrielle Solis , teru Hatcher who plays suzan mayer, lynetth scavo played by felicity huffman, and bree Van de kamp played Marcia cross.
The plot covers their experience in the close bond they formed over the years on the lane but with a twist, the women friends loose a friend whose death begins the to hidden secrets, betrayals , domestic struggles. As narrated from the perspective of Mary alice played by Brenda Strong who commits suscide due to a truth which she fears may destroy her family, we see how the friends try to discover the reason the deceased friends death while trying to navigate their personal lives.
Review
This series was light and heavy for me at the same time, the ambivalence of the emotions i felt really got me invested and connected to the characters, the storyline evoked great sense of nostalgia something you would expect while seeing the miscene, aesthetic in this present time and i really enjoyed this aspect of the drama in that sense. The characters where really well written in. Way that felt like one could’nt do without the other, just like in reality were personality are extensively portrayed without confliction, this is something i reayliked alot, each episode in the first season covered aspects of social factors that arr really important to learn about and i enjoyed how this was done while still maintaining the tonal concept In the nature of the drama.
What actually makes Desperate Housewives such an interesting take on human nature, is not necessarily the mystery and controversy in the surbuban life that was depicted, but instead the contradictions that exist between who we are, who we want to be and who we allow others to perceive as the reality of us. There is indeed something unsettling about how normal these women are beneath the chaotic situation they find themselves, behind premed lawns are people trying to make sense of their lives through desperate decisions that reveal the complexity of morality when desire, insecurity and expectations comes into question
