Today I want to share a truly fascinating channel I discovered a long time ago—or rather, one the YouTube algorithm recommended to me. I enjoy following content created by bicultural couples—partners who are married but come from very different backgrounds and cultures. I find it captivating to see how they overcome language barriers, culture clashes, and the various challenges that arise, alongside the more "everyday" issues found in any conventional marriage. This channel features vlogs from a young couple: Abby, a German woman, and Rene, an Ecuadorian man. In their early videos, they explained that they met during a trip he took to Germany—a trip organized by his church, as both of them are Evangelical Christians. While there, he met Abby and fell in love with her. Once their relationship blossomed, René decided to return to Germany—this time to marry Abby and settle down in the country.
Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes un canal muy pero muy interesante que yo encontré hace mucho tiempo, o mejor dicho, me lo recomendó el propio algoritmo de youtube, ya que la verdad es que me gusta seguir el contenido que hacen algunas parejas que son biculturales, es decir que están casados pero son de personalidades y culturas muy diferentes, ya que me resulta fascinante ver como lograr romper con las barreras del idioma, los choques culturales y todas las dificultades que puedan surgir además de las que son digamos "más cotidianas" en un matrimonio convencional. Este canal nos ofrece Vlogs de una pareja muy joven, Abby, una chica alemana y Rene, un muchacho ecuatoriano. En sus primeros videos ellos explicaban que se conocieron gracias a un viaje que hizo él a Alemania, era un viaje por cuenta de su iglesia ya que él, bueno, mejor dicho, ambos, son cristianos evangélico, y estando allá conoció a Abby y se enamoró de ella. Una vez que surgió el amor en la pareja René decidió viajar de regreso a Alemania, en esta ocasión para casarse con Abby y establecerse en ese país.
In those videos, the couple explained very important things that helped me learn a bit more about Germany and its culture; they shared interesting details about jobs—such as the approximate earnings for specific roles like construction (based on work René had done, for instance)—but they also discussed topics like the aftermath of World War II and how it affected the population. Abby speaks Spanish really well—with a slight, lovely, and endearing accent—but the truth is she speaks the language perfectly; René also speaks German very well, even though he claims not to speak it as fluently as he would like. Consequently, they have some very interesting and entertaining videos where they speak German for a set number of hours.
En esos videos la pareja explicaba cosas muy importantes que me ayudaron a conocer un poco más sobre Alemania y su cultura, relataban cosas muy interesantes acerca de los trabajos, cuánto dinero más o menos podía ganar un persona con determinados trabajos como construcción (basados en trabajos que había hecho René por ejemplo) pero también hablaron de cosas como por ejemplo las consecuencias de la segunda guerra mundial y de qué manera afectó a la población. Abby habla el español realmente bien, con un ligero acento muy bonito y tierno, pero la verdad es que habla el idioma perfectamente bien, y René también habla muy bien el Alemán, a pesar de que él afirma no hablarlo tan bien como le gustaría, así que tienen videos muy interesantes y divertidos hablando alemán durante una cantidad específica de horas.
They stopped uploading content for a while, and I even thought they had shut down their channel and would never again post those videos—which I found just as relaxing as they were interesting and educational. But then, they suddenly returned with some unexpected, surprising, and wonderful news: there were now three of them instead of two. The lovely couple had become a beautiful bicultural family, having welcomed a daughter whom they decided to reveal to the world once she was about a year old. From then on, they only uploaded two or three videos that year because they had another baby; the family now consists of four members, and their videos focus on what it is like to have and raise children in Germany—covering topics such as education and recreation, as well as their experiences as parents.
Ellos dejaron de subir contenido por un tiempo y yo hasta llegué a pensar que habían cerrado su canal y nunca más se dedicarían a subir esos videos que me resultaban tan relajantes como interesantes y educativos, pero de pronto volvieron con una noticia inesperada y sorpresiva pero muy buena, ya no eran dos sino tres, es decir que la hermosa pareja se había convertido en una preciosa familia bicultural, pues durante todo ese tiempo ellos tuvieron una hija y decidieron mostrarla luego de aproximadamente un año de edad. A partir de entonces solo subieron alrededor de dos o tres videos ese año y todo fue por causa de que tuvieron otra bebé, es decir que actualmente la familia consta de cuatro miembros, y los videos ya se enfocan en cómo es tener y criar niños en Alemania, el tema de la educación y recreación, como ha sido su experiencia como padres.
Lately, they’ve been creating content more frequently and sharing some really interesting moments with us—like Rene’s parents’ first visit to Germany and the trip Abby and Rene took to Ecuador with their daughters (even though the couple had visited together a few times before). I really enjoy seeing their interactions with the girls and how the children have adapted to this blend of cultures, understanding both languages and embracing the fact that they have both European and Latin American heritage.
Últimamente ellos generan contenido más seguido y nos han mostrado cosas muy interesantes como la primera visita de los padres de Rene a Alemania y la visita de Abby y Rene con sus hijas a Ecuador (aunque ellos ya habían ido juntos como pareja algunas veces) Pero me gusta ver la interacción con las niñas y como ellas se han adaptado a esa mezcla de culturas, entendiendo los dos idiomas, con la idea de que tienen sangre Europea y latinoamericana al mismo tiempo.
