We finally arrive at the fifth book in the saga; it took me quite a while to read because it is the longest in the entire series. It is clearly a much more mature book than the others, which dispels those baseless claims that Harry Potter is just for children. In my opinion, while it starts out that way, the story matures as it progresses, with each book becoming more serious and somber. Here, the story begins with an attack: for the first time, Dementors were prowling around Little Whinging in Surrey (where Harry lived) and attacked Dudley Dursley (Harry's cousin). This forced Harry to cast a Patronus Charm, landing him in serious trouble with the Ministry of Magic. From that point on, the Ministry decided to interfere in Hogwarts' internal affairs by sending a High Inquisitor, Dolores Umbridge. She began to distort the education system, coerce opinions, and create a stifling atmosphere—all while the Ministry tried by every possible means to deny Lord Voldemort's return, right up until it became undeniable.
Llegamos finalmente al quinto libro de la saga, me llevó un buen tiempo leerlo porque es el más largo de toda la serie de libros. Evidentemente es un libro mucho más maduro que los demás, lo cuál hecha por tierra esas afirmaciones sin fundamento de que Harry Potter es para niños, en mi opinión empieza como tal pero va madurand a medida que avanza la trama, cada libro se vuelve más serio y sobrio. En este caso empezams con un ataque, por primera vez los dementores merodeaban Little Whinging en el condado de Surray (la zona donde vivía Harry) y atacó a Duddley Dursley (El primo de Harry) lo cuál lo obligó a realizar un encantamiento Patronus y esto lo metió en serios problemas con el Ministerio de Magia. A partir de este momento el ministerio decidió interferir ene los asuntos internos de Hogwarts y para ello envía a una Suma Inquisidora, Dolores Umbridge, quien comienza a sesgar la educación, coeccionar opiniones y a crear un ambiente pesado, además a tdo esto se le suma el hecho de que el ministerio intenta por todos los medios posibles negar el regreso de Lord Voldemort hasta que es inevitable.
The central themes that emerge in this book are media manipulation and political coercion. When governments decide to manipulate the public mindset, they employ mass media or, in other instances, oral communication. In this book, the Ministry of Magic attempts to deny Voldemort's existence to avoid the responsibility of confronting him; to this end, it acts arbitrarily by implementing coercive measures. We saw a similar dynamic in Gabriel García Márquez’s *One Hundred Years of Solitude*, where José Arcadio Segundo witnessed the Banana Massacre—in which the government killed over three thousand workers—only for the authorities to deny the event entirely and convince the population that it had never occurred. Here, the Ministry of Magic prefers to cling to a lie rather than face reality, to the detriment of the public; in response, the Order of the Phoenix (led by adults) and Dumbledore’s Army (comprising Hogwarts students and led by Harry) emerge not merely as a form of resistance against the system, but as a means of combating a threat that was becoming increasingly intense and palpable.
Lo principal que salta a colación en este libro es la manipulación mediática y la coacción política. Cuando los gobiernos deciden tratar de manipular tu mente utilizan los medios de comunicación masivos o en otros casos la comunicación oral. En este libro el ministerio de magia intenta negar la existencia de Voldemort para evadir la responsabilidad de enfrentarlo, y para ello actúa de manera arbitraria implementando medidas coersitivas, esto tambiaén lo vimos en el libro Cien Años de Soledad de Gabriel García Márquez cuando José Arcadio Segundo presenció la masacre de las bananeras en la cuál el gobierno asesinó a más de tres mil trabajadores, pero luego lo negaron todo y les hicieron creer a la población que eso nunca pasó. En este libo el ministerio de magia prefiere ampararse en una mentira antes que asumir la realidad, y esto perjudica a la población, pero en este sentido surge La Orden del Fénix (conducida por adultos) y El Ejército de Dumbledore (conducido por estudiantes de Hogwarts y liderados por Harry) no solo como una especie de resistencia al sistema, sino como una medida de combate ante esa amenaza que cada vez se hacía más densa y palpable.
Dolores Umbridge embodies authoritarianism and represents bureaucratic fascism; she acts under orders from the Ministry yet revels in her own sense of power. She arrives at the school to upend everything—not for the well-being of the students and staff (who ought to be the priority), but to serve the Ministry's interests and enforce a lie. She operates through self-imposed decrees, threats, coercion, and fear: dismissing teachers and meting out punishments that are not merely severe, but cruel and inhumane—all of which results in trauma and deeply unpleasant situations.
Dolores Umbridge es el autoritarismo, representa el fascismo burocrático, actúa bajo ordenes del ministerio pero disfruta del hecho de sentirse poderosa, llega al colegio a revolucinarlo todo pero no en función del bienestar de los alumnos y el personal del castillo (quienes deberían ser los más importantes) sino en función de lo que le conviene al ministerio, de la mentira que pretende imporner, ella se mueve mediante decretos autoimpuestos, amenazas coarciones y el miedo: destituye profesores, impone castigos, más que severos, crueles e inhumanos y todo esto deriva en traumas y situacianes muy desagradables.
Speaking of trauma, in this book Harry faces extremely difficult situations: not only the loss of a crucial father figure—his godfather, Sirius Black—but also social isolation, criticism from people who once claimed to admire him, and the disillusionment of discovering that his father was not the hero he had imagined, but rather a bully during his teenage years. Through Professor Severus Snape’s memories, Harry learns that his father was a tormentor who constantly harassed students—particularly Snape—going so far as to publicly humiliate him and cause the breakdown of the strong friendship between Snape and Lily Evans (Harry’s mother). All of this served to further erode the young Snape’s confidence and cement his stony, hostile personality, ultimately leading him to make disastrous decisions that would come at a terrible cost.
Y hablando precisamente de traumas, en este libro Harry enfrenta situaciones muy difíciles, no solo el hecho de una perdida tan importante como lo era su figura paterna más sólida, su padrino Sirius Black, sino el aislamiento social, las críticas de personas que antes decían admirarlo e incluso la decepción al decubrir que su padre no era el héroe que creyó que era, sino que en su adolescencia actúo como un tirano. A través de los receurdos del profesor Severus Snape, Harry descubre que su padre era un abusador que constantemente asediaba estudiantes y en especial a Snape, hasta el punto de humillarlo publicamente y provocar la ruptura de la sólida amistad que había entre él y Lily Evans (la madre de Harry) Todo esto ayudó a socavar aún más la confianza del joven Snape y a consolidar su personalidad pétrea y hostil, llevándolo incluso a tomar muy malas decidiones que le costarían muy caro.
But what I enjoyed most was the fact that the author makes no attempt to create perfect characters; on the contrary, she seems to want to highlight that those considered "heroes" are also vulnerable and make huge mistakes—like Dumbledore himself, who believed that the more distant he remained from Harry, the safer the boy would be, yet the result was a disaster. This makes the characters more human and realistic.
Pero lo que más disfruté fue el hecho de que la autora no pretende construir personajes perfectos, al contrario, parece querer resaltar el hecho de que aquellos cnsiderados "heroes" también son vulnerables y cometen errores muy grandes, como Dumbledore mismo, que creyó que mientras más distante estuviese de Harry más protegido estaría el muchacho, y el resultado fue un desastre, esto hace que los personajes sean más humanos y realistas.
