Siendo mamá de un minibeisbolista/Being the mom of a mini-baseball player [ESP-ENG]

Many might assume I rest on weekends after a long work week, but in reality, I spend that time accompanying my son to his championship games; he is currently playing in a league established last year called the Liga Oeste. Many criticize the time I dedicate to this sport and the fact that I take it so seriously.

I do it because I am supporting my son; he has shown great interest in this sport, truly enjoys what he does, and strives to improve every day. At just seven years old, he has already competed in four championships and played in All-Star games. Last year, he set his mind on working hard to make the state team, and let me tell you, his perseverance paid off—he achieved his goal, even though many other children had an advantage over him in terms of natural baseball ability.

But he never gave up, and that made all the difference. He was able to make the most of the experience... I have always tried to teach him to fight for what he wants and to believe in himself. Because—believe it or not—there is a lot of competition and arrogance in this world; yet, setting that aside, this sport teaches him a kind of discipline that I want my son to apply to every aspect of his life. I feel like the luckiest mom because I have a sweet, athletic boy who is also a great student; even though he devotes time to sports, he cares just as much about excelling in his studies and being the best in his class.

That’s why I enjoy every game, every victory 🏆, and even the losses with him; this weekend, they didn't manage to win either of the two scheduled games. The whole team was disheartened because it was their second consecutive loss, so I told them: "It doesn't matter who wins or loses; what matters is enjoying the game." These words lifted their spirits so much that they rallied in the final inning, scoring three runs in a matter of minutes. Unfortunately, however, time ran out and the game was called. Yet, even though they lost, the kids walked away with a great attitude.

Every game, every weekend, is a different experience, a different emotion—where we laugh, shout, cheer, and cry... We simply enjoy every experience along this wonderful journey...

I like how you remind the kids that enjoying the game is more important than winning or losing, because that lesson stays with them for life. Sports really do teach discipline, and I agree that it helps in school and other parts of life, too. Reading this made me realize how lucky your son is to have a parent who supports him in both studies and sports. Your story is very encouraging, and it reminds me of the joy that comes from sharing victories and even losses with family.
