People said that we should not judge a book by its cover. I don't care because the good book would have a good cover also, like this book.
This book came across me by e-commerce with an orange icon. I head over heels of this cover, that’s why I directly check out without reading the synopsis or others review. I just love the cover then I get it! That book is entitled: TWENTY-FOUR EYES by Sakae Tsuboi. Honestly I know nothing about Sakae Tsuboi. Just because I trust a novel from a Japanese author, I bought it! On the other hand, the book has a discount. It totally saved my pocket.
The thing that I loved about the cover was the children with kimonos, a young teacher with modern clothe–which is that is contras, then the little view of Japan. The white background looks like complete the cover so I bought it without hesitance.

Twenty-Four Eyes
Twenty Four Eyes is about a new-young teacher who has to face 12 students. The school is in the little village named Tanjung Village. To reach the school, the teacher named Miss Oishi has to cross a river or cycle a considerable distance. But the 12 students don’t behave to her, so she thinks her job was so difficult to do. But someday, a tragedy happened, Miss Oishi could not teach them for a long time, even the principal prepared another teacher. There, students start to miss the teacher and pay a call to Miss Oishi. After that, the relationship between the 12 students and Miss Oishi became better than before. Those 12 students ask Miss Oishi to come back but that wish could not happen. Miss Oishi has to leave the school because of her health. After years, Miss Oishi comes back but the situation is very different. The 12 students is decreased due to the differing circumstances of each family.

This book touched my heart because the story was about tThe villagers who live in a state of deprivation; they are struggling to survive, so education is not a primary necessity. All of the students were pure, innocent, and childish, but the condition forced them to live like adults.
To be honest I have no idea about the category of this novel. Whether it’s a classic story or not, I just read it and love how the translator (Indonesian language) translates it. Usually, when you read a translator book, you would not enjoy the translation because it’s read awkwardly. No wonder sometimes readers choose the English version. But it did not happen to this book. I enjoy the Indonesian version.
That's why I rate this book with 4,5 from 5 start; Touching!
