My Simple Garden Joys: Sweet Potatoes, Peppers, and a Rescued Pineapple Crown

David Hobson: I grow plants for many reasons: to please my eye or to please my soul, to challenge the elements or to challenge my patience, for novelty or for nostalgia, but mostly for the joy in seeing them grow.

Good day, Hivers!! Happy gardening..

Allow me to share a few updates on my greens.

A few days ago, I shared an update about the damage to my flowers and ornamental plants. Today, I'll be showing more of the greens.

First is our sweet potato.

My husband planted it in a styrofoam box. It was looking good after a few weeks. It's now ready for pruning and planting the slips. It's actually our first time growing this kind of sweet potato.

What we usually grow is ornamental sweet potato vines with no tubers. We grow them for their leaves.

Here are my peppers. We locally call it "kuititut" 😁 or "siling labuyo.

Lastly, our pineapple.. My husband threw this pineapple crown after I made juice. So when I saw it in the trash, I hurriedly grabbed it and planted it next to the sweet potatoes.

Pineapples are easy to grow, so I didn't worry when I saw the leaves crumpled in the trash 😁

A few more months to go and we will have sweet potatoes and pineapple.

Nature's blessing is endless when you have a garden. 🌿

"What an interesting story you're telling! That pineapple crown rescued from the trash has its own magic, and the fact that it's your first time with sweet potato gives it special value. I'll mention the most delicious dishes that can be prepared with each one.

The sweet potato: With the tubers, the tastiest thing is a roasted sweet potato with butter and salt, nice and warm, almost like dessert. And the tender leaves (the "slips") are perfect in a quick sauté with garlic. Nothing goes to waste.

The kuititut (siling labuyo): That heat is the soul of Filipino cuisine. The most delicious thing is a sour soup with two or three chiles added at the end, or a sauce of vinegar with crushed garlic and chile for dipping grilled meat. It's spicy, but with a fresh aroma that seduces.

The pineapple: With that rescued pineapple, the best thing is pineapple fried rice served inside the shell, or a refreshing pineapple salad with mint and lime. And even the peel can be used for a refreshing infusion."

Hi, your chili peppers look beautiful and appetizing. I wasn't familiar with that sweet potato; the leaves look dark. I have another variety. Sending you lots of good vibes!
