Sunday is "Market day" in my town. Since I am busy in the morning, my husband took the job of going to the market. Every Sunday is like a surprise party for us. He leaves home at around 6 am and goes back before 7. As he arrives home, my daughter and I scour his bag for food. We were like small kids looking for daddy's treats in the bag 😂.

Well, of course, there are other things like vegetables, meat, and some aromatics.
He also bought some of my favorites, corn and peanuts, for our afternoon snack.

Every market day, we always look forward to buying different kinds of "kakanin" or local snacks and treats. My daughter loves this colorful "puto" or steamed rice cake. It has strips of cheese on top. Then, my husband also got some "biko", it's made from glutinous rice (malagkit), coconut milk, and brown sugar.
And the last surprise was presented on the table at lunch.
Chicken tinola - a Filipino soup with chicken, green papaya, leafy greens, and ginger. We only bought the chicken and some spices, and the rest are home-grown.
We grow our own papaya, malunggay, sili, lemongrass, and even ginger. We only buy ginger if we didn't harvest enough.
Well, that's all for our simple weekend. We stayed home and enjoyed some warm chicken tinola soup at lunch and some kakanin after.
