When I first listened to this song, I had to put it on repeat because it made me realise how much pressure some people have put on themselves to feel accepted by others. Scars to Your Beautiful, a good song wrote by Alessia Cara was released in 2015 and it is one of the songs on her debut album, Know It All. This particular song tells a sorry of struggles, and address how some people believe that they must change the way they look just to fit into a society, space, environment they consider beautiful.
What made me enjoy this song in a meaningful way is that Cara did not approach the subject as if it was something small. She payed attention to the fact that the desire and need to be accepted can change how confident someone looks and the way they see themselves.
Listing to the song over and over again, one of the lyrics lind that keeps hitting harder is “You don’t have to change a thing.”* That looks so simple but it can be different for others who see images of people who seem to meet all the beauty requirements and standards. And now that we have social media all around which has made a lot of people think their natural appearance is not enough. But this song said otherwise because it challenged the listeners that our worth does not depend on other people's expectations. The message is clear and was not passed across in a complicated way.
This song also touched the hilarious things that some people may put their hands in her they accept that their appearance is the problem. It laid emphasis on the pressure some put on themselves, the hunger and desire to become the center of attention and beauty which is becoming more than a harmless interest in a way that it has affected some self esteem and caused health issues for some. Cara does not take these struggles as vanity. She put more attention to the insecurity beanrary them, making the song feel realistic and compassionate rather than judging them .
Listening to “Scars to Your Beautiful” what I appreciate about it is that it challenges the idea that beauty must be earned by changing one self. It is a reassuring song that I feel everyone should listen to especially those who think they need to look different to fit in to get attention or to be e love. Personally, I see Scars to Your Beautiful as a song that strength lies in the space it gives listeners to question those expectations. We may not have the confidence to carry on with each day and we may still have a kind of feelings with the way we see ourselves, but that does not mean we should change our identity, look, appearance just to fit in to what the society has made.
