The episode 3 of The Residence contained with Detective Cupp still trying to investigate the death of White House Head Usher, A.B. And this time, after his body was moved out through the front door, and Cupp read the body language and expression of those at the white house while his body wat been moved out, Gothhard, the pastry chef became the prime suspect after one of the main evidence linked him to the game room where A.B's body and was found. And this time, the FBI assisting Cupp was ready to arrest him, but Cupp did not allow it because she did not want to assume and concluded because the evidence was not enough. She wanted full hearing of what transpired that might between Gothhard and A.B before concluding if the evidence she has gotten points to his death.
From what Jasmine said, the conflict between Gothhard and A.B which made their relationship to go side way. For some months, Gothhard has spent those months coming up with a gingerbread model of the white house, and he made a small figure of A.B to honour him which he liked when he showed A.B. But the house secretary had another plan for the holiday and she pushed for another thing to be displayed and not the White House model. Some people went along with the Idea which A.B did not support, it made the model to be pushed out of the state room. A.B however delivered the sad news to Gothhard which was disappointing, which left him deeply hurt.
During the state house, their disagreement went on. Gothhard had planned to serve the guests Bananas Foster, but A.B did not agree with the use of flame in the state Dinning Room. And again, the gummy Kangaroos decoration also brought up some hitted arguement because the Australian delegations did not find it please. All these hitted arguement when people were around made Gothhard looked like he could have murdered A.B but Cupp was not satisfied with that, she needed more time to establish things right.
Investigating and questioning others, when Cupp got to realise that Gothhard removed one of his knife which was bloody from the game room, the investigation got more complicated. Gothhard explained to her that he saw A.B already dead and he saw his knife there, he had to remove it from the lying body.
He was afraid that if the knife was seen at the scene, it would make him look guilty for what he did not do. He also gave an explanation that the blue chalk that strained his cooking dress appreciated there when he wanted to picked up the knife and he stumbled near the table. The explanation that Gothhard gave to Cupp accounted for some of the evidence, but it also showed that while he was trying to protect himself, he has also complicated things by making himself looks more suspicious.
From the mysterious phone call that A.B received that made him tell the foreign prime minister that he will die before the end of the night, Cupp had to investigate that to by going to the greenhouse to check what happened and questioning the woman in charge, Emily. They found out that the person who placed the call was not familiar with the room that the person had to use a touch light to move around the room which was what the foreign prime minister saw.
During the investigation, Cupp discovered the that the greenery she found on the White House floor in the game room was a keas from a cedar tree which was around the green house building. And this started to make more sense because it showed that someone has been outside that evening, which shifted the focus away from Gothhard a bit.
While the episode was coming to a close, another suspect was coming up because Cupp also found a cigarette stick near the cedar tree which matches the lipstick worn by butler Sheila who did not really like A.B and already helped direct suspicion towards Gothhard. And this time, Cupp had to question Sheila about what she was doing in the game room the night of A.B murder, which left that question unanswered. This episode was more interesting in a way that gave the pastry chef, Gothhard, a believable motive without treating motive as proof, while Cupp continued to do her thing and payed attention to the tiniest details which kept the investigation going.
The murder mystery is still yet to be solved. But watching from the first episode to this made it obvious that there is more to uncover about A.B murder and the person who did the job might be the least person I expect.
