[TV] The Residence, Season 1, Episode 4 — The Last of Sheila

This episode 4 wasn't what I was expecting because it drifted from the investigation to the life of Detective Cupp, why she enjoys watching birds, and when she was watching birds with her nephew, Ansel, during their camping together. And when he got impatient after waiting for days and over and over for a rare bird Cupp was finding. She had to tell him how she once searched for her sister's missing sock that had strawberry designs on it when they were still children. And this short story she told Ansel shows where her determination, patience started from. And it also helps me understand why she did not let go of the mystery behind A.B's death, even though it was getting more complicated.

And back to the investigation in the White House. The attention has been shifted away from the pastry chef and now centered on Sheila, whose account of the night keeps changing.

From what others said, Sheila did not like the present president, and she had been very close to the former First Lady, Kim Abkin, and A.B took her close door to reprimand her actions for mixing and gisting with the former first lady on the night of the state dinner which turned into another heated argument. This time, A.B did not talk much but told her to see him the following morning in his office. She got agitated and feared that A.B might fire her. She also said terrible things about getting A.B fired or killed him. These things that were revealed got Cupp more serious about examining her actions, because she has been threatening A.B even before he died that night.

It got more complicated for Sheila after his movement within the White House that night, as revealed. She was supposed to deliver vodka to the president's mother's room after she requested it, but she drank the whole bottle herself in the game room that night A.B was murdered.

She later went outside the White House to smoke, where she saw the foreign minister with the White House chef and also noticed someone entering the greenhouse garden shed. And while she was inside the White House, she also saw someone entering a room on the third floor where she was, although she was drunk, which made her not recognize the person.

Admist this, the Anne, one of the FBI medical examiner brought Cupp one of the on going updates about A.B, which showed that he died around 9:30 p.m. from something that was smashed to the back of his head. It also showed that he was poisoned, but not that strongly, and those two slashes on his wrist were done after he had died. And since Sheila was in the room that night and she did no see A.B's body, Cupp realized that he was not killed in the game room; he must have been moved there.

Agent Park and Cupp continued with their investigation when they discovered that on the third floor, there was an empty room undergoing renovation. However, the renovation was staged, and was intentionally put there because the president and his husband did not want a particular guest to be put in that room overnight during the state dinner. While Cupp enter the room, the smelled fresh paint even though the white house painter earlier said no painting has been done In the room. She checked round the room and saw scrapes paint from the baseboard, uncovering blood beneath it. What Cupp saw gave the episode a likely clue of the murder scene.

This episode 4 ended with someone having to call Cupp from across the street. She had to use he binocular, she saw someone looking at the Whitehouse through a binocular too.
