Why Do Your Fingers Become Wrinkled After Staying in Water?

Has it ever happened to you when you put your hands in water especially while washing then it starts looking like an old person? This also happens when you spend a long time bathing, swimming or doing any of those water activities.

But have you ever wondered why?

I once heard from my younger sister who said her skin has absorbed a lot of water that if why it took the swelling wrinkles shape. Little did she know that there is more to it than that.

According to scientist and experts, that shape our hands takes is actually being controlled by our nervous system. When water stays around our fingers longer than expected, there's this experience that goes on which causes tiny blood vessels beneath our skin to narrow. That is why we see those changes on the surface of our skin, creating those families wrinkles.

The interesting aspect of this whole thing is that, seeing those wrinkles on our fingers, scientists believes that it helps us to hold and grip things better. Just like that different pattern on the tyres.. Those grooves help move water away and improve contact with the road. When our fingers are like that, it is kind of the same, helping you hold wet objects.

And some research also have proven that when our fingers are like that, they tend to hold objects more easily than when they are dry. However, this is still being study by the scientist, exactly

So, when next your see your fingers wrinkled after spending a lot of time bathing, washing or using water, what you need to recall is that your nervous system has a busy doing something probably never thought about.

So, the next time you come out of a long bath and notice your fingers looking different, remember that your nervous system has been busy doing something you probably never thought about.

So, tell me. Have you ever experienced this before or your fingers are immune to it?
