A new month brings new K-drama stories to watch (such as *The Remarried Empress*, which is premiering soon). Well, actually, it premiered in October, but I only just got around to watching it—it’s definitely worth a look! It’s fun, full of romance, and you’re sure to have a great time watching it.
Also known as *Charge Me Up*—or *La chispa del amor* in Spanish—the series premiered in October and consists of 10 episodes. Directed by Park Su-won, it is based on the web novel *Charge Me Up* by Haebeon. This romantic comedy-fantasy story stars Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin in the lead roles.
The story follows Na Bo-bae, a screenwriter who, since childhood, has had the peculiar condition of generating static electricity with her body—a trait that forces her to live in isolation and wear gloves. Then there is Baek Ho-rang, a wealthy chaebol heir who hides a major medical secret: his artificial heart relies on a battery to keep functioning. Their meeting is quite unexpected—a chance collision of their lips—which leads Bo-bae to remark that the contact had no effect on him; she even ends up calling him "rubber glove."
However, their relationship begins when he needs her to "recharge" his heart—keeping him alive until his next surgery—leading them to enter into a contract (we all know where this is heading). The protagonist agrees, seeing an opportunity to find inspiration and gain real-life romantic experience for the novel she is writing; her own contract is set to expire in three months, and if she fails to craft a compelling story, she will have to abandon her dream of becoming a screenwriter. As their lives become intertwined, the sparks between them do more than just sustain a heart—they ignite an attraction that proves impossible to extinguish. But as the past threatens to catch up with them and the terms of their agreement begin to blur, can this love survive once the energy starts to run out?
At first, I was hesitant to watch it—given the whole "contract" premise and all—but it really ends up drawing you in. I especially enjoyed the funny moments where the protagonist touches people and, in the process, gives them an electric shock. Furthermore, the need for physical contact isn't just some repressed romantic desire; for the protagonist, it’s a medical necessity for survival, which is a definite plus. I also appreciate that the show stays focused on its core premise—there’s no filler—and the limited number of episodes feels just right for the kind of story being told.
As for the cast, I had already seen the lead actress in other projects—such as *The Call*—and I must say I preferred her performance here, though that’s really just a matter of personal taste. Kim Young-kwang strikes the perfect balance between the haughtiness of a typical *chaebol* heir and the genuine fragility of someone whose life depends on a battery; his chemistry with Soo-bin is quite strong, and together they are truly endearing. I appreciate how the story explores vulnerability as a form of strength: both protagonists live with "flaws" that isolate them—his mechanical heart and her electrical condition—ultimately conveying that fitting in doesn't mean hiding what makes you different, but rather finding someone who values that unique trait. This adds real substance to the story.
Fast-paced (10 episodes): The perfect length—it avoids unnecessary filler and hooks you right away.
Great chemistry between the leads: Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin create an organic and entertaining dynamic.
Creative and hilarious premise: The need to "recharge" one's heart leads to comical situations and fresh physical comedy.
Lighthearted and comforting tone: Perfect for relaxing and binge-watching, without burdening the viewer with an excessive amount of angst or suffering.
Unlike most Korean dramas, which span 16 episodes packed with heavy subplots, this series consists of only 10 episodes. It gets straight to the point, the pacing never flags, and it can easily be watched over a weekend or a couple of afternoons; it’s light, heartwarming, and quite entertaining, so you won’t find yourself getting bored.

7.8/10 Historia │ 9/10 Actuaciones │ 7/10 Sonido │ 8.5/10 Escenario │ 8.3/10 General
