[ESP-ING] A Short Evening Walk

photostudio_1792978279796.jpg

ENGLISH

We went out for a short tour of the city of Maracay at night, and I wanted to take some photos of the places that were lit up and offered a nice view for a stroll. In this case, we passed through downtown Maracay. And although there were many places that weren’t lit up—as you know, in Venezuela the power goes out for 6 or 7 hours depending on the area—many parts of Maracay were in the dark, but there were others that did have power, and you can really appreciate how beautiful the scenery is.

We passed by Bicentenaria Square, which was quite well-lit. Although I’m not a photographer, I tried to avoid having the streetlights reflect off my phone, but the lights still show up in the photos. Nevertheless, you can see a very peaceful square that was deserted. I liked how the concrete benches were painted and how the square looks when it’s lit up; in the distance, you can see the top of the cathedral.

We were walking down Santos Michelena Avenue, which is beautifully painted in a colonial style. In fact, during the day there’s a small colonial museum there with some old cars and historic houses, and I really liked seeing how they’re painted—it feels like a whole different town. But it’s just the street that leads to the Maracay Ateneo.

In the morning, this street is very busy, and right there—I think at the yellow house—they sell cachapas, empanadas, and fresh juices, and it’s always packed. That tells you they must be really good—I haven’t actually tried them myself—but it’s a key gathering spot in Maracay. I think they even sell soups and lunches; it’s a place where lots of people come to shop and enjoy a unique experience.

Halfway down the street, we saw the Maracay Cultural Center, which is truly beautiful—it’s brightly lit with lots of colorful lights, which really catches your eye. It was recently reopened, I was told they renovated the interior—I haven’t been able to go inside yet—but from the outside it looks beautiful, and next to it they built a plaza with small tables that’s always full of people. I love seeing this part of the city all lit up, full of life and color. Here are some photos of this beautiful Ateneo, which represents part of Aragua’s culture.
