Game On Hive: The Addiction That Keeps Me Coming Back – Why Splinterlands Owns My Heart (And My Days)

Fellow Hivers, warriors, and late-night grinders, When I saw #IndiaUnited’s latest weekly contest drop — “Game On Hive: What Keeps You Coming Back?” — I felt that familiar rush. The same one I get when a new ranked season opens or when a perfectly positioned card turns a losing battle into a sweet victory.

This is not just another writing contest for me.This is personal. I have been grinding #Splinterlands since November last year. Not casually. Not “I play sometimes.” I mean the kind of commitment where my Hive day simply doesn’t feel complete until I have checked the battles, upgraded a card,or jumped into a community challenge. Writing and crypto on Hive are beautiful, but gaming? Gaming is my medicine. And Splinterlands is my strongest dose.

Why This Game Hits Different Hive has plenty of games. I have tried some of the ones @sagarkothari88 pointed me toward inside HiveSuite — Color Sort and Sudoku are genuinely fun and I still hop in when I need a quick brain reset. But Splinterlands sits on another level entirely.

It is not just cards. It is strategy, collection, competition, community, rewards, and pure dopamine all rolled into one living, breathing world. You build a collection across Rebellion, Conclave Arcana, Escalation, Chaos and more. You learn positioning, elemental advantages, and when to go all-in versus when to play smart. You face real people. You lose. You adapt. You come back stronger. As a pure newbie last year, the game felt massive. Where do you even start? Which cards matter? How do you actually win battles instead of getting farmed? I asked questions. A lot of them. Veterans(@rentmoney,@atnazo @mango-juice, @dewabrata and host of others ) answered. The community didn’t gatekeep — they helped. That support turned confusion into confidence. Owning cards, learning how to use them, and finally understanding battle flow went from “overwhelming” to “second nature.” Now my collection is respectable. Not whale-level (yet), but solid enough that every season feels meaningful. And one of the purest joys? Getting to face the big man himself — @davemccoy, the CEO of Splinterlands — not once, but like three times or thereabouts. Those matches are something I still talk about. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. It was an honor and a privilege.

What Actually Keeps Me Coming Back It’s not one single thing. It’s the full package:

  • The fights — every battle feels different.
  • The cards — collecting, upgrading, selling and finally using that perfect legendary in the right spot.
  • The community — warriors, veterans, regular grinders who show up and get rewarded for consistency.
  • The contests and conflicts — something is always happening.
  • The simple joy of logging in and knowing this world is still growing.

Most of my Hive blog is Splinterlands content for a reason. Check my posts. You’ll see it. 99% of the time I am either sharing a battle, talking strategy, celebrating a win, or just living inside this game. It has become part of how I experience Hive.

The Bigger Picture #IndiaUnited’s prompt hits the nail on the head: Is it the fun? The competition? The strategy? The rewards? Collecting? Meeting other players? Or just the pure joy of playing? For me it’s all of the above — and then some. Splinterlands gives me a reason to open the app every single day. It gives me stories worth writing about. It gives me people worth fighting (and laughing) with. And it sits perfectly inside the Hive ecosystem where writing, crypto, and gaming all feed each other.I am a dolphin 🐬 largely due to splinterlands gaming community that is something, that's progress, why won't I keep coming back???? A dolphin!!!

So here it is, #IndiaUnited — my honest answer poured out. Splinterlands is not just a game I play. It’s the game that made Hive feel complete for me.At this juncture, let me drop a battle I played in one of the seasons. Enjoy the replay.Watch the replay
