War is one of the worst facets of humanity, there are always human losses and destruction everywhere, that is why we must do everything possible to avoid them. However, this is no easy task, which is why there are intelligence groups dedicated to avoid, at all costs, any armed conflict, the WISE agency is one of them and among its ranks is one of the most capable spies in the world, the agent Twilight.

When the threat of a possible imbalance of peace between the countries of Ostania and Westalis, reaches the ears of WISE, they immediately decide to put their best agent in charge of the operation Strix, which aims to approach a known political leader to find out his plans and if they represent a threat, to stop them. To do this, the agent Twilight must transform himself into an exemplary family man and infiltrate a famous school known as Eden Academy, where he will have privileged access to a lot of information, but above all to Dominic Desmond, the political leader who threatens the peace of the two countries.
Twilight's first step in fulfilling her mission is to assume the identity of Loid Forger, a mild-mannered psychiatrist at Berlint hospital. Next, he gets a daughter, who will come to Eden and give him access to the parents of the other children. To do so, he goes to an orphanage, where he meets and adopts little Anya, a mischievous but apparently bright girl, who "easily" passes the first filter of the Eden Academy. However, the mission is complicated when the school requests an interview with the girl's parents, both parents.
The next step is to find a wife for him and a "surrogate" mother for Anya, which luckily practically knocks on Twilight's door. Thus, Yor Briar, a young woman desperate to get married to avoid the worry of her family and the harassment of the police, arrives to complete the Forger family. Now all is apparently well on the Strix mission, however, Twilight is unaware that his fake daughter is a telepath who knows all his secrets and that his wife is an assassin for hire known as Torn Princess.
The first thing I'll say about this series is that I was really surprised. Despite having seen how popular it was, I had no idea what it was about, so I thought it was a Violet Evergarden type anime, all emotional, almost a slice of life. And while I have nothing against that genre, honestly, they're just not my thing, so Spy x Family was put off for a long time, until last week when I finally got around to watching it and as I said above, I was surprised by how incredibly funny and crazy it is. What I assumed would be a drama ended up being one of the funniest comedies I've seen in recent months.
The series combines three very different characters and makes them members of a completely dysfunctional family, in which each one seeks to protect their secrets, which are not few, as well as look after their personal interests, which puts them in hilarious situations that made me laugh more than once while watching it. The characters are very well worked and as the episodes go by we get to know them and become attached to them. Although there is still a lot to tell about the three of them, what we have seen is enough to create the necessary empathy in the viewer to make us want them all to do well and remain the most dysfunctional family in Westalis/Ostania.
Reading the synopsis of Spy x Family, one might suspect that this is a spy thriller, but nothing could be further from the truth. Although it has its serious moments, most of the time we see the characters going through absurd situations that are in complete contrast to the supposed mission of keeping the peace between the two countries. Many everyday things, such as a visit to an aquarium, a "couples" outing for a few drinks or a tennis match, are taken to a crazy and unnecessary, but hilarious extreme, showing us that even everyday life can be interesting if you are a super spy, a hired assassin and a telepath.
One of the things I liked most is the whole world they create within the series, in which two neighbouring countries find themselves in an eternal conflict, something that is evidently inspired by the divided Germany of the Cold War. This gives the series a familiar context, in which not too much explanation is necessary, thus giving us the possibility to extrapolate the story and assume that it is similar to the reality of our world, without the need for too much explanation. I thought this was clever, as it allows us, as viewers, to quickly establish the context in which the anime takes place, without the need to see it explicitly depicted.
Animation and Music
There is no doubt that one of the highlights of Spy x Family is the animation, which is done by WIT, one of today's most renowned studios, and in this series you can see why they have such a reputation. The character designs are extremely appealing and, in some cases, cute. There were perhaps a few moments that made me squint a little, but nothing that Anya's fabulous and hilarious faces can't fix.
The openings and endings are fabulous and although I found the first two to be better than the last two, I certainly enjoyed all four and left them in almost every episode, except for the ones that ended in a cliffhanger (like the tennis ones, what a crazy episode). They have a relaxed and carefree pace that blends perfectly with the comic and chaotic atmosphere of the series, and are accompanied by some funny and witty animation sequences, in which we see a little more of the characters and their daily lives.
So far I've only seen the first season and I honestly regret not having done it before, as I really enjoyed these 25 chapters. So if you are one of the few who haven't given this anime a chance, I assure you it's worth it. Now I just have to wait for the second season to be finished to give it the marathon it surely deserves.

La guerra es una de las peores facetas de la humanidad, siempre hay perdidas humanas y destrucción por doquier, es por ello que debemos hacer todo lo posible por evitarlas. Sin embargo, esto no es tarea fácil, es por ello que existen grupos de inteligencia dedicados a evitar, a toda costa, cualquier conflicto armado, la agencia WISE es una de ellas y entre sus filas cuenta con uno de los espías más capaces del mundo, el agente Twilight.
Cuando la amenaza de un posible desequilibrio de la paz entre los paísees de Ostania y Westalis, llega a oídos de WISE, inmediatamente deciden poner a su mejor agente a cargo de la operación Strix, la cual tiene como finalidad acercase a un conocido líder político para averiguar sus planes y en caso de representar una amenaza, detenerlos. Para ello, el agente Twilight debe transformarse en un padre de familia ejemplar e infiltrarse en una famosa escuela conocida Academia Edén, donde podrá tener acceso privilegiado a mucha información, pero sobre todo a Dominic Desmond, el líder político que amenaza la paz de los dos países.
El primer paso de Twilight para cumplir su misión es asumir la identidad de Loid Forger, un apacible Psiquiatra del hospital de Berlint. Lo siguiente es conseguir una hija, la cual acudirá a Eden y le dará acceso a los padres de los demás niños. Para ello se dirige a un orfanato, donde conoce y adopta a la pequeña Anya, una traviesa pero aparentemente brillante niña, que "fácilmente" pasa el primer filtro de la Academia Edén. Sin embargo, la misión se complica cuando la escuela solicita una entrevista con los padres de la niña, ambos padres.
Es así como el siguiente paso a seguir es encontrar a una esposa para él y una madre "sustituta" para Anya, la cual por suerte prácticamente toca a la puerta de Twilight. De esta forma hace aparición Yor Briar, una joven que busca desesperadamente casarse para evitar la preocupación de su familia y el hostigamiento de la policía, ella llegará para completar a la familia Forger. Ahora todo marcha aparentemente bien en la misión Strix, sin embargo, Twilight ignora que su hija falsa es una telépata que conoce todos sus secretos y que su esposa es una asesina a sueldo conocida como Torn Princess.
Lo primero que voy a decir de esta serie es que me sorprendió muchísimo. A pesar de haber visto cuán popular era, no tenía ni idea de qué se trataba, así que pensaba que era un anime tipo Violet Evergarden, todo emotivo, casi un slice of life. Y aunque no tengo nada en contra de ese género, sinceramente, no son lo mío, por lo que Spy x Family fue pospuesto durante mucho tiempo, hasta la semana pasada que por fin me animé a verla y como dije arriba, me sorprendió por lo increíblemente divertida y alocada que es. Lo que yo supuse que sería un drama, terminó siendo una comedia de las más graciosas que he visto en los últimos meses.
La serie combina a tres personajes tan diferentes entre sí y los hace miembros de una familia completamente disfuncional, en la cual cada quien busca proteger sus secretos, que no son pocos, además de cuidar de sus intereses personales, lo cual los pone en situaciones hilarantes que me hicieron soltar más de una carcajada mientras la veía. Los personajes están muy bien trabajados y con el paso de los episodios los vamos conociendo y encariñándonos con ellos. Si bien, aún hay mucho que contar sobre los tres, lo que se ha visto es suficiente para crear la empatía necesaria en el espectador como para que deseemos de todos les salga bien y que sigan siendo la familia más disfuncional de Westalis/Ostania.
Al leer la sinopsis de Spy x Family, quizás podríamos tener la sospecha de que se trata de un thriller de espías, pero no hay nada más alejado de la realidad. Aunque tiene sus momentos serios, la mayoría del tiempo vemos a los personajes pasar por situaciones absurdas que contrastan por completo con la supuesta misión de mantener la paz entre los dos países. Muchas cosas cotidianas, como una visita a un acuario, una salida en "pareja" por unas copas o un partido de tenis, son llevados a un extremo alocado e innecesario, pero sumamente gracioso, mostrándonos que hasta la cotidianidad puede ser interesante si eres un super espía, una asesina a sueldo y una telépata.
Una de las cosas que más me gustó es todo el mundo que crean dentro de la serie, en el cual dos países vecinos se encuentran en un eterno conflicto, algo que está evidentemente inspirado en la Alemania dividida de la guerra fría. Esto le brinda a la serie un contexto familiar, en el que no es necesaria demasiada explicación, con ello nos dan la posibilidad de extrapolar la historia y asumir que es similar a la realidad de nuestro mundo, sin que hagan falta demasiadas explicaciones. Me pareció algo inteligente, ya que nos permite, como espectadores, establecer rápidamente el contexto en el que se desarrolla el anime, sin la necesidad de verlo explícitamente representado.
Animación y Música
No cabe duda que uno de los aspectos más destacados de Spy x Family es su animación, la cual es realizada por el estudio WIT, uno de los más reconocidos de la actualidad, y en esta serie se puede ver por qué gozan de dicha reputación. El diseño de los personajes es sumamente atractivo y, en algunos casos, tierno. Quizás hubo algunos momentos que me hicieron entrecerrar un poco los ojos, pero nada que las fabulosas y chistosísimas caras de Anya no puedan solucionar.
Los opening y los ending son fabulosos y aunque los dos primeros me parecieron mejores que los dos últimos, sin duda disfruté los cuatro y los dejé en casi todos los episodios, excepto en aquellos que terminaban en un cliffhanger (como los del tenis, vaya locura de capítulos). Tienen un ritmo relajado y despreocupado que compagina a la perfección con la atmósfera cómica y caótica de la serie, además van acompañados con unas secuencias de animación divertidas y ocurrentes, en las cuales vemos un poco más de los personajes y su día a día.
Hasta ahora solo he visto la primera temporada y honestamente me arrepiento de no haberlo hecho antes, ya que disfruté mucho estos 25 capítulos. Así que si son de los pocos que no le han dado una oportunidad a este anime, les aseguro que vale la pena. Ahora solo me queda esperar a que finalice la segunda temporada para darle el maratón que seguramente merece.
