At first I thought of doing a review, but being Doctor Who a series with a rather special format I decided to approach the subject in a different way, doing a countdown, so Allons-Y.
It chronicles the adventures of The Doctor a Timelord able to travel through time and space using his TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) in which he gets involved in all sorts of potentially dangerous situations. The Doctor is charged with ensuring the safety of the earth, time and the universe.
Doctor Who is an English science fiction series, recognized for being the television series of this genre with the longest duration in the world (Sorry Trekkies), in fact next year is its 60th anniversary, but how can it be so long-lived?, You may ask and here comes into play the wonderful mind of the British, in the best style of the legendary James Bond, The Doctor is a character played by different actors in different "Eras", this is because after a certain time the character is "regenerated" in a new body, this is what gives rise to the change of actor.
Broadly speaking there are two "Eras" of Doctor Who, there is the Classic Who covering the first seven regenerations and the Revival or Modern Who made up of the last 5 regenerations, there are other regenerations that have been unveiled throughout history, but in general in this post I will talk about the regenerations that have starred in the series in the modern era, from nine to thirteen.

Plus of course it has a large dose of history and we are introduced to several famous characters generally in an endearing way. Another highlight for me in this series are the villains, from the Cybermen, to the Weeping Angels, to the legendary Daleks, the villains in Doctor Who are truly iconic, despicable and mostly represented by entire races of cruel creatures, with the Doctor's biggest antagonist being The Master another Timelord with a thirst for conquest and a desire to wreak havoc.
One of the things I like and appreciate the most of the first seasons of the modern series is that they kept the practical effects and prosthetics of yesteryear, this is something that I usually value a lot of productions, I will always prefer an actor characterized than a character generated entirely by computer and although in recent seasons they have integrated more computerized special effects there are still characters with prosthetics and makeup.
Something that characterizes this series is the presence of a companion, usually a human woman, the companions are a key piece in the adventures of The Doctor, they are his grounding cable when he loses the north, besides serving as a character to empathize and in some cases provide the story with romantic and comic elements, also the presence of a human in the team shows us that even the smallest human can make a big change.
[Source - IMDB](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/mediaviewer/rm2771237377?ref_=ttmi_mi_typ_pbl_303)Before we go to the count I would like to make a special mention to the most important companion of The Doctor, the fabulous TARDIS, I must say that it is a dream for me that there is a technology like that, that allows you to travel through time and space, even though sometimes it fails, to be able to travel anywhere and in any time I find it simply fantastic, besides that it is the origin of a legendary gag in the series and is that on the outside it has the appearance of a British police phone booth, but inside it is HUGE, so most of the characters who enter for the first time say variations of the famous phrase "It's bigger on the inside".
Now let's go with the count, because if I keep going down this road it's going to be a review instead of a ranking.
#5 - Thirteenth Doctor
This incarnation made history in the series by being the first incarnation portrayed by a woman. The actress in charge of bringing the thirteenth regeneration to life is Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch) and had the tough job of dealing with critics who would not accept a female personification of The Doctor, even though The Master, another Timelord-Timelady, also had a female representation with wide acceptance from Whovians.

During its three seasons the canon of the series suffered strong changes and I think many fans have had a hard time digesting them, however, Jodie seems to me an excellent actress who creates a truly magical character with all the characteristics we love about The Doctor: her weirdness, strange sense of humor and above all, her pacifism. This incarnation was characterized by having several companions at the same time, reaching three during the first two seasons, when it was usually one or two at the same time, and also kept them for almost all its cycle unlike other incarnations that had different companions throughout their seasons.

#4 - Twelfth Doctor
In charge of this portrayal was Peter Capaldi (In the Loop, Suicide Squad), an extraordinary and charismatic actor who gave us a version of The Doctor a little different from what we were used to, a little more somber and perhaps a little grumpy. Honestly the seasons of this Doctor seemed to me that they were somewhat difficult for the character, he goes through complicated situations and that put in doubt his actions, I think he has been one of the modern incarnations that had the hardest time keeping his companions safe, plus he had to go through terrible times when he was locked in a "castle" for billions of years.
[Source - IMDB](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/mediaviewer/rm1037105152/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)During this incarnation we are introduced to Missy, my favorite version of The Master, she is a tremendously charismatic Timelady who stands up to The Doctor in a fun and somewhat Machiavellian way, unfortunately we only see her in this incarnation, I would have liked to see her in other seasons. As I mentioned before Twelve's relationship with his companions is quite difficult, so much so that even one of them dies without him being able to save her, this leads the story to one of the best episodes it has had and certainly the best of the Capaldi era.
[Source - IMDB](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/mediaviewer/rm3715948544/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)This chapter is called Heaven Sent and takes place in a kind of castle in which the doctor is imprisoned, where he is forced to reflect on his actions and to accept the death of Clara, is a very strong episode where we see a hundred acting skills of Peter Capaldi as he takes the episode almost alone, it is a chapter with many emotions and with enough feeling, one of my favorites of the modern era of Doctor Who.
#3 - Ninth Doctor
Among Whoovians it is said that your first "Doctor" always stays with you and so it does, this was the first Doctor I saw and it certainly has a special place in my heart as it was the gateway to this wonderful universe that is Doctor Who. He is played by Christopher Eccleston (Existenz, Thor: The Dark World) and although he only played the role of the Doctor for one season he is a favorite of many as he gave a simply "Fantastic!" performance, he gave the character an endearing personality although at times he portrayed a strong and somewhat harsh character.

My favorite episode of this one is undoubtedly The Empty Child, it takes place during WWII and is a chilling and tremendously sad episode, I think it could be said that this is my second favorite episode of the series, as well as one of the most iconic and remembered among fans.
#2 - Eleventh Doctor
Geronimo! This incarnation is simply hilarious, charismatic and an extremely jovial character. He is played by actor Matt Smith (The Crown, House of the Dragon) and I belive he has been the youngest actor to play The Doctor in the history of the series, his seasons were full of adventures and introduced us to two of the most beloved companions of the fans: Amy and Rory, as well as their daughter who would later be discovered as the Doctor's wife, River Song.

During the seasons of this incarnation we got a very important weight the Weeping Angels, which are quantum beings able to catch you and return you to any place in time, in fact one of my favorite episodes of the series called The angels take Manhattan is basically about them, it is an extremely exciting and tragic episode.
[Source - IMDB](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/mediaviewer/rm389069312/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)But without a second's hesitation my favorite episode of the eleventh incarnation and in general of the modern era of Doctor Who is Vincent and The Doctor, it's a beautifully emotional episode in which we meet Vincent Van Gogh, and well, we all know how Van Gogh's life was and that his wonderful work was never recognized during his lifetime, but in this episode The Doctor gives Vincent a glimpse of what his work means to humanity today, it's a totally touching final scene that we wish could be a reality.
#1 - Tenth Doctor
Ten, Ten, Ten's across the board! We've finally reached the end of the list and number one could be none other than my beloved TEN, played by the very talented David Tennant (Broadchurch, Jessica Jones, Good Omens) is for me the most charismatic and endearing portrayal of The Doctor. I love the humanity and quirkiness that Tennant injects into the character, with his distinctive appearance he is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable, remembered and beloved incarnations of The Doctor.

But without a doubt my favorite is the outrageously funny Donna Noble, played by the very talented Catherine Tate, plus I would also like to highlight the participation of the incredible John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, a very special companion and who also makes a brief reappearance in the last seasons with the Thirteenth Doctor.
[Source - IMDB](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/mediaviewer/rm652410368?ref_=ttmi_mi_typ_pos_12)Finding a favorite episode from the seasons of Ten was no easy task, but going through the list of these there is one that finally stood out: Blink, it is an episode with a bit of mystery and suspense in which we are introduced for the first time to the fearsome Weeping Angels, in this episode they manage to create an atmosphere of complete tension as these monsters attack at the moment when you don't see them, so when the characters face these villains they can't even blink, because at that moment they are attacked by these creatures and immediately sent to another time, which while not something so scary, but I honestly wouldn't want it to happen to me.
And well friends we finally reached the end of the publication, I hope you liked it as much as I enjoyed writing it and if you have not seen this series and Science Fiction calls your attention do not wait any longer to see it, you will enjoy it enormously, if I had to rank it without a doubt I would give it a 9 out of 10, or even a little more because I truly love it.

Relata las aventuras de The Doctor un Timelord capaz de viajar a través del tiempo y del espacio utilizando su TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space) en las cuales se ve envuelto en todo tipo de situaciones potencialmente peligrosas. The Doctor se encarga de velar por la seguridad de la tierra, del tiempo y del universo.
Doctor Who es una serie inglesa de ciencia ficción, reconocida por ser la serie de televisión de éste género con la mayor duración del mundo (Sorry Trekkies), de hecho el próximo año es su aniversario 60, pero, ¿Cómo puede ser tan longeva?, ustedes se preguntarán y aquí entra en juego la maravillosa mente de los británicos, al mejor estilo del mítico James Bond, El Doctor es un personaje interpretado por diferentes actores en diversas "Eras", esto es gracias a que después de cada cierto tiempo el personaje se "regenera" en un nuevo cuerpo, esto es lo que da pie al cambio de actor.
A rasgos generales existen dos "Eras" de Doctor Who, está el Classic Who que abarca las primeras Siete regeneraciones y la Revival o Modern Who conformada por las últimas 5 regeneraciones, existen otras regeneraciones que se han ido desvelando a través de la historia, pero en general en este post voy a hablar de las regeneraciones que han protagonizado la serie en la era moderna, es decir, de la nueve a la trece.

Además, por supuesto, tiene una gran dosis de historia y nos presentan a varios personajes célebres generalmente de forma entrañable. Otro punto a destacar para mí en esta serie son los villanos, desde los Cybermen, pasando por los Weeping Angels, hasta los legendarios Daleks, los villanos en Doctor Who son verdaderamente icónicos, despreciables y en su mayoría están representados por razas enteras de criaturas crueles, siendo el mayor antagonista de El Doctor "The Master" otro Timelord con sed de conquista y ganas de sembrar el caos.
Una de las cosas que más me gusta y más aprecio de las primeras temporada de la serie moderna es que mantuvieran los efectos prácticos y los prostéticos de antaño, esto es algo que normalmente valoro mucho de las producciones, siempre voy a preferir un actor caracterizado que un personaje generado completamente por computadora y aunque en las últimas temporadas han integrado más efectos especiales computarizados siguen existiendo personajes con prostéticos y maquillaje.
Algo que caracteriza esta serie es la presencia de un acompañante, normalmente una mujer humana, los companion son pieza clave en las aventuras de El Doctor, son su cable a tierra cuando este pierde el norte, además de servirnos como personaje para empatizar y en algunos casos dotan la historia de elementos románticos y cómicos, también la presencia de un humano en el equipo nos demuestra que incluso el humano más pequeño puede hacer un gran cambio.
[Fuente - IMDB](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/mediaviewer/rm2771237377?ref_=ttmi_mi_typ_pbl_303)Antes de irnos al conteo quisiera hacer una mención especial a la acompañante más importante de El Doctor, la fabulosa TARDIS, debo decir que es un sueño para mi que exista una tecnología como esa, que te permita viajar a través del tiempo y del espacio, a pesar de que a veces le falla, poder viajar a cualquier lugar y en cualquier época me parece sencillamente fantástico, además de que es origen de un gag legendario en la serie y es que por fuera tiene la apariencia de una cabina telefónica de la policía británica, pero por dentro es ENORME, así que la mayoría de los personajes que entran por primera vez dicen variaciones de la célebre frase "It's bigger on the inside" (Es más grande en el interior).
Ahora sí vamos con el conteo, porque si sigo por este camino va a ser una reseña en lugar de un ranking.
#5 - Décimotercer Doctor.
Esta encarnación hizo historia en la serie al ser la primera encarnación representada por una mujer. La actriz encargada de darle vida a la decimotercera regeneración es Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch) y tuvo la dura labor de hacer frente a las críticas que no aceptaban una personificación femenina de The Doctor, a pesar de que The Master, otro Timelord-Timelady, también tuvo una representación femenina con amplia aceptación de los Whovians.

Durante sus tres temporadas el canon de la serie sufrió fuertes cambios y creo que a muchos fanáticos nos ha sido algo difícil digerirlos, sin embargo, Jodie me parece una actriz excelente que crea un personaje verdaderamente mágico con todas las características que amamos de El Doctor: su rareza, extraño sentido del humor y por sobre todo, su pacifismo. Esta encarnación se caracterizó por tener varios companions al mismo tiempo, llegando a ser tres durante las dos primeras temporadas, cuando lo normal es que fuera uno o dos al mismo tiempo, y además los mantuvo durante casi todo su ciclo a diferencia de otras encarnaciones que tuvieron diferentes companions a lo largo de sus temporadas.

#4 - Duodécimo Doctor
El encargado de esta representación fue Peter Capaldi (In the loop, Suicide Squad), un extraordinario y carismático actor que nos dio una versión de El Doctor un poco diferente a la que estábamos acostumbrados, un poco más sombrío y quizás algo gruñón. Honestamente, las temporadas de este Doctor me pareció que fueron algo difíciles para el personaje, atraviesa situaciones complicadas y que ponen en duda sus acciones, creo que ha sido uno de las encarnaciones modernas que más difícil la tuvo al momento de mantener a salvo a sus companions, además de que tuvo que pasar momentos terribles cuando se vio encerrado en un "castillo" por billones de años.

Como mencioné antes la relación de Doce con sus companions es bastante difícil, tanto que incluso una de ellas muere sin que él pueda salvarla, esto lleva a la historia a uno de los mejores episodios que ha tenido y sin duda el mejor de la era Capaldi.

#3 - Noveno Doctor
Entre Whoovians se dice que tu primer Doctor siempre se queda contigo y es así, este fue el primer Doctor que vi y ciertamente tiene un lugar especial en mi corazón ya que fue la puerta a este maravilloso universo que es Doctor Who. Es interpretado por Christopher Eccleston (Existenz, Thor: The Dark World) y a pesar de que solamente interpretó el papel del Doctor durante una temporada es el favorito de muchos ya que brindó una interpretación simplemente "Fantastic!", dotó al personaje de una personalidad entrañable aunque a veces representaba un carácter fuerte y algo duro.

Geronimo! Esta encarnación es sencillamente divertida, carismática y con un carácter sumamente jovial. Es interpretado por el actor Matt Smith (The Crown, House of the Dragon) y creo que ha sido el actor más joven en interpretar al Doctor en la historia de la serie, sus temporadas estuvieron llenas de aventuras y nos introdujeron a dos de los companions más queridos de los fans: Amy y Rory, así como también la hija de estos que luego se descubriría como la esposa del Doctor, River Song.

Durante las temporadas de esta encarnación cobraron un peso muy importante los Weeping Angels, los cuales son seres cuánticos capaces de atraparte y regresarte a cualquier lugar en el tiempo, de hecho uno de mis capítulos favoritos de la serie llamado The angels take Manhattan se trata básicamente de ellos, es un episodio sumamente emocionante y trágico.

Me encanta la humanidad y la extravagancia que le inyecta Tennant al personaje, con su característica apariencia es sin duda una de las encarnaciones más reconocidas, recordadas y queridas de El Doctor.

[Fuente - IMDB](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436992/mediaviewer/rm652410368?ref_=ttmi_mi_typ_pos_12)Encontrar un capítulo favorito de las temporadas de Diez no fue tarea sencilla, pero repasando la lista de estos hay uno que finalmente destacó: Blink, es un episodio con un poco de misterio y suspenso en el cual nos presentan por primera vez a los temibles Weeping Angels, en este capítulo logran crear una atmosfera de completa tensión ya que estos monstruos atacan en el momento en el que no los ves, así que cuando los personajes se enfrentan a estos villanos no pueden ni siquiera parpadear, porque en ese momento son atacados por estas criaturas y enviados inmediatamente a otra época, que si bien no es algo tan aterrador, honestamente es algo que no quisiera que me pasara.
