Dr. STONE: Stone World (S1 E1) Review

Greetings!

Human extinction is one of the subjects that I like very much when it comes to movies and series. In my lifetime I have seen numerous depictions of human extinction and I cannot recall all of them now. In anime, I cannot remember how many I already watched, or maybe I haven't watched any.

I think most of the human extinction that I watched involved a high level of struggle. In Dr. Stone, the perceived act of human extinction seems to not include prolonged struggle but is undoubtedly somewhat disastrous, think of flying planes, moving vehicles, and gas stoves if they are left unattended it will be catastrophic.

Plot

On a normal day when Taiju is about to confess his love to Yuzuriha a weird green light suddenly appears from the horizon and in a matter of seconds it engulfs the whole world and petrifies everyone who comes into contact with it.

3700 years later

3700 years after the weird green light appears one of the characters named Senku breaks free of being petrified and embarks on a quest to reverse the petrification of all human beings. Six months later, Taiju also breaks free, and the two join forces together in seeking to reverse the certification of all human beings.

The idea of "3700 years" made me think about how the two protagonists Senku and Taiju were able to become human again because it was shown that the petrification completely turned a human into stone. Could it be because of the mystical effects of the petrification? I am so curious about it and I am very curious to see if it is going to be revealed in the next episodes.

Plot hole or part of the plot?

It was stated at the beginning of the episode that "every man, woman, and child on Earth instantly turned to stone". That statement makes me think that only humans were turned into stone. But there are also scenes where a dog is shown alive and well (did not turn into stone but the owner is) and then there's a bird that turned to stone. Plot hole or part of the plot?

It is only the first episode and I think it will be answered in the coming episodes why a dog did not turn into stone whereas numerous birds were turned into stone. Aside from the birds that were shown no other animals were shown that turned to stone (which makes me curious yet again).

A dog did not turn to stone... ... but a bird did.

Breaking free

As fast as the protagonists were turned to stone in the first episode it was also in the first episode when Senku was able to discover the cure for the petrification. A lot of questions pops out on my mind when it was revealed that the cure was discovered, which are "What's next?", and "How does Senku plan to de-petrify all humans?", "Is the cure going to be exploited?". All remains to be seen in the coming episodes.

Conclusion

This episode is interesting enough to make me watch the next episode because there are lots of questions to be answered. The style of animation is good. It seems to be a fast-paced series (I like fast-paced movies and series). The dialogue and dubbing are good except for the occasional screaming of one of the characters. But I am going to immediately watch the next episode after I click the "PUBLISH" button for this blog.

That is all for now guys, catch you up with the next one. Wishing you all safety, good health, and abundance.

What you mention is not a plot flaw at all. Only the swallows and the humans were petrified, I think I understand they explain why later but you still have a long way to go for that, hahaha.

Dr. STONE is very good, one of the best shonen and one of the most different, I read the manga and maybe what can disappoint you a bit is the ending, although I understand that they released a special sequel, one of these days I have to read it and see how it goes.

Many people have told me that they love this anime and it actually didn't really caught my attention because I do believe the plot is something very used before. But you pointed out many interesting this that just made me curious.

The plot holes are really plot holes? Or something you'll discover later on? That really made me want to watch it just to see what actually happens haha.

But I'll wait for your review on the rest of episodes. I really liked the way you explained everything :)

Dr. Stone I watched it quite a while ago and it gets interesting as you go along, I hope you keep watching it, I really hadn't noticed these plot holes. I tried to read the manga and it feels much heavier than the anime because the plot is mostly about the explanations of how things work and the experiments they do to create everything little by little, the manga is more paragraph than drawing HAHAHAH. Good post bro <3

I've heard alot about the anime "Dr Stone" and I've been wanting to watch the anime for a long time. It's one of the amazing anime I've heard in a while. I didn't even know that it's about apocalypse and human extinction. I guess I'll have to start it real soon.

Well for the hole in the plot, I think it's normal for me. It may be due to complex plot and may pave way for criticism if there're not there. Well, that's what I think though.

This anime is very entertaining, I love its scientific theme and the truth is that I really liked the first season, although I still need the second one that I haven't found the time to watch.

hey I had not seen that little detail of the dog that did not turn to stone but using the logic and Japanese culture surely it is because it was a Robot Dog, the pets that usually have hahaha

Everyone turned into a stone that’s quite interesting I think I might watch this one.

Interesting plot, on the contrary I prefer slow plots haha but even so, I enjoy the ones that go very fast as long as they are well done and do not make me dizzy with so much content in one chapter 😂

The plot is intriguing and all the questions of what was that green ray? why did it petrify all the humans and some animals and not others? if they did it that way, it must be for something, I think.

A lot of questions and a good story that is presented to us.

Dr. Stone is one of my all-time favorite anime and manga... And yes, for some reasons only humans and sparrows were petrified. 😁 Not petrifying all animals would come in very handy in the later chapters of the manga... 🙊🙊🙊

I think it is normal that there are holes in a story as complex as the one presented in Dr. Stone. Even in the best anime you see scripts altered according to the demands of the plot.

This anime is good, I've seen it all and I'm actually quite satisfied.
