Clarkson, quien ha sido instrumento y visionaria como cineasta y productora de series destacadas como House, Juegos de Tronos, entre otras, en esta oportunidad trae un contenido adaptado de la novela Sarah Vau. El género es drama psicológico sobre personajes ficticios, pero nada distante a la realidad; esta miniserie fue estrenada en abril de 2022. La trama se basa sobre la acusación de un hombre prestigioso (Whitehouse) que es señalado por abuso sexual, todo un escándalo; el caso es liderado por una abogada de intachable reputación que hará que sea declarado culpable; mientras que la esposa del acusado se pasea entre caminos de dudas sobre el supuesto comportamiento lascivo y grotesco del hombre a quien admira.
Wandering through the catalog of the Netflix platform to choose an attractive screening was an indecisive task, until finally, I found a recommendation, a British TV miniseries that I did not hesitate to give me because of its charm. This charm is due to the set of elements used by the director to make the story appreciated by the moviegoer. The miniseries Anatomy of a Scandal is the radiography in its first season of a story heard and seen in different proposals, but this is carried through the composition of images, melodies and the position of the viewer in being a judge before a judgment on the argument that does not deviate in its 6 chapters. From the beginning I affirm that it is a miniseries that entertains, of quick and surprising inference that deserves to be recognized because it offers a refined finish.
Director S.J. Clarkson, who has been instrumental and visionary as a filmmaker and producer of outstanding series such as House, Games of Thrones, among others, this time brings a content adapted from the novel Sarah Vau. The genre is a psychological drama about fictional characters, but nothing distant from reality; this miniseries was released in April 2022. The plot is based on the accusation of a prestigious man (Whitehouse) who is accused of sexual abuse, a scandal; the case is led by a lawyer of impeccable reputation who will make him be found guilty; while the wife of the accused wanders among paths of doubt about the alleged lewd and grotesque behavior of the man she admires.
The first chapter starts out very fast-paced and full of everything, accelerated images, words are superfluous and are part of the plot. From that scene the drama arises, my attention is boosted because I want and need to know what happens. The plot develops based on threads of thoughts that must be directed by lawyers, those involved and the viewer who acts as a judge over the stories told. Eloquent dialogues allow you to filter information, create conjectures to approach the objective about the facts that are contextualized, it seems to me a well structured discourse. On the other hand, I think that the shots are bridges to know the past and present relationship from different optics; really the visual effect is based on images about unclear memories that explain the process of evoking what happened and about what was supposedly ignored. Another fundamental aspect in the audiovisual plot is that it is composed of songs (ABBA group, UB40, others) and sounds or melodies that are in accordance with the story; as well as those cold and continuous notes to highlight a displeasure or unpleasant memories; slow rhythms that end in a resounding way, blows of a piano tune to convey a disenchantment, pain or betrayal. I liked these aspects of the miniseries because they describe the plot where the events occurred, behaviors and the character of the trial; the miniseries Anatomy of a Scandal used all the resources to build a not new but attractive story. However, from the plot there was a character that disappeared, I wonder if it was intentional or did not deserve projection; I also perceive that it started with strength until it became predictable.
The miniseries is made up of excellent performances that give the visual product a higher rating. Among the actors is Rupert Friend, who characterizes (Jean Whitehouse) an elite minister, lucky, famous and happy to have an exemplary family, an attractive man very sure of himself, who uses words to his advantage, this actor knows how to portray a proud and self-centered man. In the miniseries is the actress Sienna Miller (Sophie Whitehouse), she assumes the role of a sweet, quiet, pretty and confident wife; almost everyone underestimates her, however, intuition and observation are tools for her to make a decision, I like it because the passive behavior disappears to create the relevance of the character. Actress Michelle Dockery (kate Woodcroft), I was surprised by the turn of her role, successful lawyer with a silenced past that haunts her, I admire seeing an actress who breaks down to convey the feeling of the character, although I saw it a bit forced. I will be mentioning an actor that I have seen in other British audiovisual programs, his performance again humorous, but with a new take off and breaks what I had seen until today of this actor that makes me laugh, it is Joshua McGuire (Chris Clarke). In short, there is a cast that strengthens the plot.
Why should you watch the miniseries Anatomía de un escándalo? It is a plot that goes straight to the point, entertaining, it makes you reflect on the objective and subjective of a controversial topic about sexual relations, whether it is consensual or not; besides the game of staging scenes, the flash backs are aesthetically shocking without painting grotesque sexual matters; on the other hand, the jury, which is also the viewer, is right with the final decision. There are clear phrases like "black or white" that lead you to rethink about the position of men in society and the "moralistic" message of a Scandal; therefore, it is to spend entertaining moments with this miniseries that deserves the opportunity to be seen to refute or share about the truth.
