Hi Hivers! Today I'm gonna do a litlte review of queen of rom-coms When Harry met Sally directed by Rob Reiner and written by Nora Ephron. By the title you'll think that the story tell us what happen when our progatonists met, but actually it tell us what happened after they met. This movie was released back in 1989, but nowadays it still feels as fresh as if it aired yesterday, because the story is so relatable, for me it teach us the lesson that sometimes people is mean to be but in the right time.
Hola Hivers! Hoy hare un pequeño review sobre la reina de las comedias románticas Cuando Harry conocio a Sally dirigida por Rob Reiner y escrita por Nora Ephron. Por el titulo dirías que la historia nos cuenta que paso cuando nuestros protagonistas se conocieron, pero en realidad, nos cuenta que paso después de estos conocerse. Esta película se estreno en 1989, pero aun hoy día se siente tan fresca como si la hubieran estrenado ayer, porque te puedes identificar muchísimo con la historia, para mi nos enseña la lección de que algunas personas están destinadas a ser pero cuando sea el momento correcto.
The movie is starring by Meg Ryan, Billy Crystal, Bruno Kirby and Carrie Fisher (which it took me like 3 times of watching the movie to realise it was actually her). It starts when our protagonists meet because they finish college and Sally drives Harry who have been dating friend of hers to New York. At the end of that drive, they don't become friends but a serie of encounters through the years make them develop a very nice friendship.
La pelicula esta estelarizada por Meg Ryan, Billy Crystal, Bruno Kirby y Carrie Fisher (tuve que ver como 3 veces la pelicular para caer en cuenta que era ella, se ve muy distinta). Empieza cuando nuestro protagonistas se conocen porque juntos, al terminar la universidad comparten un viaje a Nueva York, ya que Harry estaba saliendo con una de las amigas de Sally. Cuando este viaje termina cada quien sigue su vida pero una serie de encuentros a lo largo del tiempo hace que estos desarrollen una amistad.
Through the years, our protagonists struggle with being single and dating, finding "the one", marriage and even divorce. And that's what makes this movie so relatable, it portraits how people have all this problems but not in an idealistic way, instead in a very realistic and even warm form that shows how important our friends and support system are. At the same time we have Ephron's witty script that also help us to relate to the film, making it funny, spicy (We all have seen that orgarsm scene, right?) and romantic yet not cheesy. Some people says that it's a copy of Allen's style but i think it's Reiner's own interpretation.
Al pasar de los años, nuestros protagonistas se ven envueltos en problemas relacionados con ser soltero y salir con gente, encontrar el verdadero amor, matrimonio e incluso divorcio. Esto es lo que hace que te identifiques tanto con la peli, pues nos muestra de manera realista e incluso de forma cálida que tan importante son nuestros amigos y nuestro sistema de apoyo cuando pasamos por estas cosas. Todo esto es presentado siguiendo el inteligente guion de Ephron que tambien nos ayuda a identificarnos con el film pues lo hace divertido, picante (todos hemos visto esa escena del orgasmo, verdad?) y romantica sin ser cursi. Algunas personas dicen que es una copia de estilo de Allen, pero yo creo que es una interpretacion propia de Reiner.
Lastly photography is incredible, Reiner show us amazing shots of New York city in all 4 seasons. Costume and style design is also magnificent we get to see the story through the wardropes and hairstyles of our protagonists. The movie also has some sort of in between takes that show married couples of all ages talking about their love story, i think it adds warmth to the film too, we end up with Harry and Sallys testimony.
Finalmente, la fotografia es increible, Reiner nos muestra tomas espectaculares de la ciudad de Nueva York en las 4 estaciones. El vestuario y el estilismo también son magníficos podemos ver parte de la historia a través de los guardarropas y peinados de nuestros protagonistas. La película también tiene unas escenas de parejas casadas que nos van contando su historia de amor, esto por su parte también le agrega calidez al film, que termina son el relato de Harry y Sally.
