
This is a computer animated film made by Pixar Animation Studios and distributed by Disney, the story was written by Enrico Casarosa, Simon Stephenson and Jesse Andrews and the latter also wrote the screenplay with Mike Jones.
It is set in the Italian Riviera in the 60's and 70's and the main character is Luca Paguro, a child sea monster who has the ability to assume a human form when he is on land and who lives with his parents on the coast of the city of Portorosso.
One day he meets Alberto Scorfano, also a sea monster, who encourages him to get out of the ocean, taking into account that while they are dry they have a human appearance but this is lost when they get wet.
The two children live the adventure of living together as humans in the small village where they enjoy the summer eating pasta, pizza, riding scooters and getting into mischief but all the fun is threatened by a big secret, the underwater location of an otherworldly sea monster.
Luca is voiced by Jacob Tremblay who starred in the 2017 film Wonder and Alberto is voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer who had played the 2019 role of Frederick "Freddy" Freeman in the film Shazam!), while direction was handled by fellow screenwriter and writer Enrico Casarosa who has been on all Pixar projects and was part of the creative team for the film Soul.
It was released on June 13, 2021 and the reviews were good from the specialists who highlighted the fact that it is light and full of contagious joy, also highlighting the fact that the film is based on the secondary characters that at times take center stage, while the public supported the box office producing a box office gross of 50 million dollars and agreeing that it is a charming fairy tale.
It was nominated for an Oscar as best animated film but did not win, resulting in Enchantment, coincidentally from Disney.
Undoubtedly it is a good option to enjoy it with the family, there are many hidden messages in its actions and humor is an undeniable part of it all.
