This is a science fiction, adventure and drama film in which one of the main protagonists is a robot, who serves as a bridge to rescue the relationship of an adventurous father with his son.
The film takes place in a distant 2020 where robots have replaced boxers in boxing matches and state fairs are very popular for this type of event.
I should clarify that I am talking about the distant year since the script of this movie written by Dan Gilroy is an adaptation of a short story written in 1956 called "Steels" by Richard Matheson.
Charlie Kenton played by Hugh Jackman, who is a former boxer is immersed in the world of fights and after losing one of them he learns that his ex-girlfriend with whom he has a son has died and he is involved with the child's aunt, who is rich, in the custody of this, a teenager named Max, played by Dakota Goyo, who had been nominated for the film "Resurrecting the Champ" in 2008 for Best Performance in a Feature Film, this was his debut film.
In the end Charlie agrees with the guys in exchange for 100 thousand dollars but they put as a condition that he spends three months with him, so both end up traveling and after losing a fight and their robot is destroyed, they buy in a junkyard an obsolete robot who is given the name of "Atom".
To everyone's surprise this turns out to be a good deal and the relationship between father and son becomes important.
To make the movie, which was shot almost entirely in the state of Michigan, several animatronic robostats were built and motion capture technology was used to depict the computer-generated robot and animatronic fights.

The film was released in October 2011 and critical opinion was mixed, with good ones prevailing, including director Shawn Levy's ability to blend fantasy with reality.
It grossed $300 million, topped the box office on the first day of release in North America and was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects but did not win the award.
