The screenplay of this movie written by Jack Thorne, Steve Conrad and Stephen Chbosky, was based on the homonymous book written by Raquel Palacio published in 2012, which was a great commercial success.

The plot revolves around a ten year old boy who lives in Brooklyn whose name is August, with his parents Nate and Isabel, his older sister Olivia and his dog Daisy, this child was born with a rare medical facial deformity, which is referred to as "mandibulofacial dysostosis" and therefore his mother decided to educate him at home until at the insistence of his father they enroll him in a private fifth grade school whose name is Beecher Prep School.

It should be noted that he has undergone 27 different surgeries to see, smell, speak, hear and even look better and it is a challenge to have to show himself to the other children, something he achieves by wearing a costume that includes a helmet, however, despite being isolated from the others, he manages to establish a friendship with one of his classmates named Jack.

The plot revolves around the adaptation and experiences of the boy and his environment in those days and the interrelationship that he manages to have despite his difference.

The boy is played by actor Jacob Tremblay, who despite being only eleven years old has already participated in more than a dozen other films, including one called "Room" with which he won the Critic's Choice Movie Awards in 2016 as best young actor, while his mother Isabel is played by the renowned and multi-awarded Julia Roberts and the father by the actor known for his work in comedy films, Owen Wilson.

The film was directed by Stephen Chbosky, known in the area of literature for the success of his book The Perks of Being a Wallflower released in 1999, which was also taken to the screen in 2012 with medium success and the premiere of the film occurred in November 2017.

The critics were positive, highlighting the good performance of its participants, especially the protagonist who was nominated again for the Critic's Choice Movie Awards as Best Young Actor but did not win, and was also nominated for the Oscar and BAFTA in the Best Makeup category, which also did not win.

The film's budget was only 20 million dollars, a figure that was multiplied in the box office, which reached 306 million dollars, making it a complete success.

A good option to watch it with the family where the value of friendship is handled very well and leaves as a moral that physical appearances are not important because beauty is in the feelings.
