Started with Marvel, gonna continue with Marvel: Shang-Chi is up.
Well, since cinemas are either closed right now or limited, I am leaning towards watching the movies on Disney+ from home - so it's not the most recent movie.
But it is amazing! Love martial arts? Shang-Chi is your movie. Love Marvel going into new directions? Shang-Chi is your movie. Want to see the real Mandarin and what happened to the fake? Well, we get into spoiler territory now.
Yeah, I am kind of a Marvel fan-boy. But with Shang-Chi Disney is really doing some great work. And they dive into Asian culture - at least a little. I am not Asian enough, to really judge that (although I have relatives in some Asian countries), but the pictures really remind me of my time there.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a really special work. The pictures are awesome! And they really are using Asian actors - or at least Asian-American/Canadian actors. This also helps to make it feel more like really diving into Asia.
But the movie is more than just a "travel movie" into Asia. It is about friendship, family relations and guilt. And at least as far as I am able to judge, it looks like they really did a lot of "real" martial arts. Which really could be the case, since Simu Liu is also a stuntman himself.
Of course it also has Marvel elements, which is after all also a big aspect of me watching the movie. So I do like the CGI and the special effects! And those - well, I should stop, before I spoil the movie. Enjoy it!
