Episode one of the Terror ended with the crew of the two ships being locked in the ice, the captains putting on a good show of "It's an adventure! What's a bit of ice camping for glory!" Kinda vibe.
Also from here on out there be spoilers.
Episode two begins with 9 months later super imposed on the screen, and shows a bunch of the sailors being sent out across the ice in the four cardinal directions in order to see if there's anything worth reporting back on. Food stores are low, and finding anything to hunt or forage. Dr.Goodsir whose quickly becoming my favourite, goes with one of these groups and despite not having to due to his rank pulls the sleigh that is carrying the explorers provisions. And quickly falls over much to the amusement of everyone involved. Later he's shown pulling just fine.
The screen time is split between things happening at the ships as teams return finding nothing, Goodsir's team as they run into some problems, and a flashback showing some interesting dynamics between the two different captains. Namely that despite thinking well of him the captain of the Erebus did not want his daughter marrying him. It also gave an awesome line.
"Explorers are made of hope"
Main while Goodsir's the team searching for leads runs into a storm, and is hunted by something. During a storm they see a blur in a formation of ice and someone takes a shot. Only for it to turn out to be a seriously freaked out locals. One of them is an older man, whose the one who got shot, and the other is his daughter, a young woman. In the chaos something grabs lieutenant Gore and drags him off. A few sailors follow the trail but declare him dead because of the sheer amount of blood. They take the injured local to the ship and drag the daughter along with. She begs them(with Captain Francis speaking Inuit with her) to let him die on the ice.
They don't, cause well, they suck. They also refuse to let her leave until she helps them. See unlike the crew, she's been getting enough food and they want to know where she got it.
The episode ends with her stuck and telling them that if they stay they'll all die and vanish. Which given that the wrecks were discovered in 2014 and 2016, well, we know it's gonna end badly.
