SINOPSIS | SYNOPSIS

Blonde is a dramatic, psychologically tinged film that takes us into the life of the late Hollywood star, Marilyn Monroe, who was considered one of the most popular stars of the 50's and early 60's. "Beyond glamour" is the phrase with which I describe this film that has a duration of almost 3 hours. Ana de Armas gives life again to Marilyn Monroe in a masterful way, I must mention, and she will be the main role of the whole work. In my opinion, Blonde comes to break down the "sex-symbol" of Hollywood in its golden age in a visceral and direct way. We will see the transgression of her personality and Monroe's multiple traumas. The whole film is really touching, especially because there was a lot of her story that I didn't know.

Podremos ver a Marilyn hija, mujer, esposa, actriz.
This heartbreaking film of the actress's life has tinges of fiction mixed with biographical information about her. We will see Marilyn as daughter, wife, wife, actress. We will see how she began her rise and fall on the big screen. And some extra facts that, for example, I didn't know. That is, a double-sided story: Norma Jean and Marilyn Monroe, although they have the same face, in the film we will see that they are two totally different women and that this was part of the star's secret.

Blonde will reveal to us throughout the story the most human and emotional side of Marilyn, the abuse to which she was subjected since childhood. And how hard it was to be a "famous" person. So if you want to see it, I assure you that you will be shocked with many images. It is one of the best movies I have seen this year.

LO BUENO | THE GOOD

Now, I want to start by talking about the goodness of the movie. I've read some of the things that appeared on screen. But without a doubt, I was impressed with the direction of this footage because it was quite sensory. There were images and music interspersed, surrealism, spun with the emotions that Ana de Armas managed to express.

There are super strong scenes that tell us about Marilyn's frustration, the emotional attachment she felt with certain men. And the naivety of the actress.

I also feel that in terms of time, they did an almost complete run through Marilyn's life leading up to her fateful passing. I understand that the play in many tabloids has the description of being "fictional" as what is told is so strong that it would end up negatively splashing those involved in it, the supporting roles, such as John F. Kennedy.

The script was well crafted, Ana's performance was 20, and several secondary characters such as Charles Chaplin (Xavier Samuel) who managed to be unpleasant. God how I suffered with him! Charles Chaplin's appearance I can't say if it's something I believe 100% because I thought the whole thing was awful. After watching this whole movie I was left with the feeling of wanting to hug Norma Jean and tell her "those men were monsters". Honestly it was like a horror parade, and although what I will say will sound feminist, every man in this actress's life was worse than the last. Except for one who in my opinion was the smoothest of them all, Arthur Miller played by Adrien Brody.

LO MALO | THE BAD

Okay, well, not everything was rosy. The editing of the film pleased me a lot, however, it became quite heavy and overwhelming with certain scenes, I won't say which ones. But I can say that the repetition of the same resource bored me, even though I know it was important in the story, it could have been mentioned in a different way. Also there was one specific scene that went overboard with surrealism (and I'm not talking about the fellatio) and ended up seeming crude to me.

I already said I enjoyed the movie, but being so long and so engrossed in the details of the actress' trauma kind of leaves you with no sense of respite. I think if I had seen it in the theater I would have just "cried and cried". It's as if they've thrown on a canvas all the drama of the actress's life and there's no glimmer of "happiness" in it, very fateful. I understand the intention and I add it in the "bad" section as a cautionary note for those who want to watch it because it's not very digestible.

LA CRÍTICA | THE CRITICISM

I have read in many tabloids about the "failure" of the movie and this impressed me. Because after seeing it I wanted to look up information on the whole direction. And I wanted to make a parenthesis in my review to talk about this because it seemed to me an excessive waste of energy. They threw a lot of hardball at the movie and it outraged a lot of people because of the heavy exposure of some events in Marilyn and Norma Jean's life. And I thought the latter was great.

I won't quote any tabloids, but you can go online and find multiple articles pointing to Blonde as a film that undermines Marilyn's image. And it seemed quite the opposite to me. They like to see these great actresses or stars "pretty and perfect" but "all that glitters is not gold". It bothered me greatly those articles that spoke negatively about the movie as if she was to blame for what Marilyn went through.

That's why I put that phrase at the beginning of the review "Beyond Glamour". This is a movie worth seeing. On a cinematographic level the scenes are brutal. The sad thing is that the protagonist existed in real life with such a hard life, and that it was unknown. And I insist that I do believe what I saw on the screen and I reject that connotation of "fictional".

However, I was pleased to learn that this film has opened up debate. I think you are on the right track when a film or a project of this level manages to open discussions around it. This film deconstructs the figure of Marilyn and puts it on the table to point out those who boast of putting her on a pedestal after death, when in life, God! they treated her in the worst way.

In an aesthetics class during my career, we talked a lot about how the role of women in art was passive during many moments in history, we were the object of "admiration" and that's it. And that's the main issue that bothered the critics, it's as if the statue they molded had a life of its own and spoke to them saying "you're not doing it right, this is not my way". I hope you manage to understand what I am saying because in my anger against those who do not want to hear the truth, I am not able to explain myself as I wish.

So, you who read me, don't be fooled and see for yourself the movie. And if you dislike what you see, well, that's part of life. Even if there is glitter, jewels, money, beauty there is not always "happiness" and that is the message I am left with, and that makes me value and criticize less the celebrities. This type of film is necessary for the world of cinema and the world in general to continue to change for the welfare of all and not just a small group.

In conclusion, I give it an 8/10 in terms of image, I really liked the movie, the story, needless to say, I will continue to recommend it and I will be delighted to hear the appreciations of this work.

From my point of view the movie was not a failure, that was invented by the media for clickbait news. It generated debate, controversy, was a topic of discussion and divided the public more than anything else. First, many believe it is a biography of Marilyn, it is not, it is an adaptation of a fictional novel that takes some real things but invents many others. After watching the movie, I checked the book, which is written by a woman, and there are many things that the director did not put, the book is stronger, even that famous scene with Kennedy is stronger in the book. It is unfair to blame the director for so many bad things, he is an excellent filmmaker and Ana de Armas accepted the character and accepted the script because she liked the message. I liked it all, I like filmmakers with personality, who stay true to their style, to what they want to tell, no matter the rejection. time will take care of putting the film where it deserves to be. Ana de Armas has been nominated for the Golden Globe, that's already an award, she won't win it, but being nominated will be her recognition, the same will happen at the Oscars. Now, they have left out the film when in fact it is one of the best of the year. I applaud the filmmaker and we must continue to make films like this that generate reactions.

    Hola @audiarmisg

Saludos.
