This year the film "A Quiet Place" was released, the director, producer and scriptwriter of which was John Krasinski. He also played the main role in the film. I believe that Krasinski has turned out not only an exciting and terrible dystopia, but also a full-fledged psychological drama about a family that is trying to survive in extreme circumstances.
In Hollywood, a new tradition. At least one horror film comes out every year, which pushes the boundaries of the genre and not only scares, but also speaks on topical issues. In addition, he earns a lot more money than he was originally worth. This was "Don't Breathe", last year - "Get Out", and now "A Quiet Place", the director of which John Krasinski honestly admits that he took into account the experience of two predecessors. His motion picture is a great straightforward horror, but also a social parable. One does not interfere with the other, even on the contrary, it is easier to try on the circumstances of the film.
We have a near future. It is different from the present in that monsters captured the planet and humanity is concerned with one thing - survival. Monsters are very impetuous and invulnerable. They consist of limbs, teeth and ears - huge and incredibly empathetic. Monsters do not possess scent or sight at all. Therefore, the only way to escape is not to make a sound.
You will not see the global scenes of the destruction of New York, the destruction of the Taj Mahal and trampling into the ground of the Eiffel Tower - the past will have to be restored in context: from the headlines collected by the head of the family Lee Abbott. His role is played by the director, producer and screenwriter of paintings by John Krasinski, better known as an actor - he was busy in the TV series "The Office" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", the films "Away We Go" and "Promised Land". His wife and mother of his two children, Emily Blunt, played Evelyn Abbott, screen wife Lee. In some deep sense, “A Quiet Place” is a family film. In the role of the son of Lee and Evelyn - 13-year-old Noah Jupe, the star of "The Night Manager", "Suburbicon" and "Wonder", his sister - 14-year-old Millicent Simmonds, which viewers can remember from "Wonderstruck". The hearing-impaired actress played the deaf-and-dumb daughter Abbott, whose natural feature saved the family from destruction - they all knew the language of signs and were able to do without words.
"A Quiet Place" is a rare horror film for which acting skills are very important. This is a real psychological drama, where extreme circumstances allow unexpected features to appear. Forcing a suspense could not have worked without a clever script (in which there are almost no replicas) and a powerful, albeit small, acting ensemble. It is tempting to tell you how exactly his characters change in the short time of “A Quiet Place”, but the plot is so poor with events - and rich with the expectation of these events - that you want to do without spoilers.
Krasinski sets himself an extremely difficult task and skillfully solves it with the help of a mean image and an incredibly rich and complexly arranged sound. As you know, for music, pauses are no less important than the sounds themselves, the same goes for the soundtrack. The viewer quickly enters the game, shuddering from dropping any cup or book onto the floor, instinctively holding his mouth when the character casually raises his voice.
For an adequate viewing of any horror, it is necessary that the room be quiet: Krasinski provided this with the very dramatic picture. The only miscalculation - or rather, a compromise - is the use of off-screen music. Sometimes you want to muffle it, so as not to interfere with follow up. However, the genre cinema dictates its own rules, and the director did not completely abandon the traditional means of influencing the audience. However, he called the right composer: Marco Beltrami specializes in high-quality horror, was friends and collaborated with Wes Craven (the "Scream" trilogy) and Guillermo Del Toro ("Mimic", "Hellboy").
Otherwise, "A Quiet Place" works like a surprisingly modern metaphor. You can refuse to read it - the film is beautiful and at the first level, as a well-made entertainment product. However, what could be more relevant than the picture of the universe covered by apocalyptic madness, in the midst of which you for some inexplicable reasons live and try to do your work, raise children and cultivate a garden.

“A Quiet Place” asks one question: is such a model of existence possible? Can you stand still, hold your breath, shut up forever to save life and go unnoticed. Alternatively, you can survive only if you challenge the evil and give up the compelled neutrality? Of course, the answer given in the picture is schematic and conditional. However, quite intelligible. If they hear you, they hunt you.
